Before you suggest it I am taking him to the doctor about it!! I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar problem with their boy and what it ended up being.
Ds has small blisters on the end of his penis which when they burst turn into open sores. As a result the end of his penis is also swollen.Yesterday he had a pooey nappy on for a while as I didn't know he had pooed and now his penis is red raw......I had to give him panadol in the middle of the night cos he woke up crying in pain from it.
I am leaving his nappy off as much as possible to try and dry the area out and that helps, but he has to have one on out and for sleeps obviously.
I don't know what to or not to put on it and I can't think for the life of me what could be the cause?
Has anyone had a similar experience??
Any thoughts welcome.

Hmm, unfortunately it sounds rather like herpes to me. Does he get cold sores? He might have spread them to his boy bits himself. Or from a towel maybe if anyone else in the house has had a cold sore? Good luck with the doctor.

My DS gets these when he is teething! :dizzy:

I asked the doctor about it when it first happened way back when and some kids urine goes REALLY acidic when they are teething.... and by George my sons does go really really acidic.... and in turns it can burn the skin and cause the blisters and open sores.... which bleed once they have pooed in their nappy.

My DS was actually given a really strong nappy rash cream which did eventually clear it up...

I find though if I see it slilghtly forming I hit it with a heap of natural rash cream (forget the name of it now.... but it has lemon in it) and even corn flour and it knocks it on the head before it begins... or if I miss it... it usually clears it up pretty much straight away.

I have no idea if it's the same circumstance for your son.... but that's my son everytime he is teething! :dizzy:

Hopefully it's nothing too serious! :hugs:

It sounds like a mild infection, I would just have as much nappy free time as possible, is there any sun out at your house today? If so let him out in the sun with no pants even 5 minutes, or in front of a window if it is too cold outside. Sunlight works!!!

Thanks for the replies ladies. I did think about herpes, but noone in our house has it, but then I don't know much about it and how easily he could have gotten it from anyone else without me knowing.

He does have strong wee when he is teething but last time his whole nappy area was affected and it was abvious it was burnt from urine. This is different though, and only judt at eh end of his penis. The rest of his nappy area is completely clear, not even red.

the tip of the penis is very sensitve,, this could be why thats the only affected place?

You can be born with the herpes virus in your system, you or your DH may be a carrier.

Herpes simplex B is common for cold sores etc.

I wouldnt be dismissing the teething thing. Some places might be more prone to it due to rubbing or more sensitive skin (as another poster mentioned) I would be considering using bicarb soda in his bath as it will give some relief (back in years gone it was commonly used for ailments like chicken pox) and can help the healing process combined with a little air like your already doing to at least clear up the sores..... poor little man :(
