My sister is 8 weeks pregnant and is looking into one of these hospitals, she has heard some great things about both and has a few questions.
How many people are in a room after you have had bubs?
Where are the Ultrasounds done?
What did you like or dislike?
Do you need a referral from you GP?

Anything else she should know or look into? She is going to do the tour of Blacktown on the weekend (provided she doesn't have her head in the toilet) and is trying to organise a tour of Westmead.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I would recommend Blacktown. they have a fantastic birth centre there, however it does fill up quickly. the birth centre however does not do waterbirths, but i am sure at westmead they do now.

i guess it depends what she wants from her birth really.

Thanks for your help MoonstoneMumma. She has heard some really good birth stories about both hospitals and is really interested to see how people felt about their care during pregnancy and after having the baby (along with care durring birth of course). I will let her know about the water births.

I had all 3 of my babies at Westmead & can't talk highly enough of it. Is she in area for Westmead as I know they fill up very quick.

Westmead is now all brand new, only opened early this year so it's lovely. Also most of their rooms are singles with a few doubles, whereas my SIL had a baby at the same time at Blacktown & they were 4 to a room.

My 1st baby I went through the midwives clinic, but due to problems my other 2 were through the professors clinic. Both were great.

I think regardless of where you go you need a referral from your GP.

Where are the Ultrasounds done? at private practice unless the hospital orders them I had 2 extra ones at the hospital because bubs was growing too quickly.
What did you like or dislike? sharing a room.
Do you need a referral from you GP? Yes I got mine yesterday. For me it's better the devil you know I know how the hospital works adn the nurses, it's clean and I always had my baby close. After no. 3 I left in 2 days, the lady next to me smked her whole pregnancy and swore at the nurses casue they would let her have a cigarette. He baby was 2 kg's, she was about 120kgs. The baby just cried and cried I felt so sorry for it.

I am about 5 weeks and am going to Blacktown (public patient) I have had 3 C/S's there I had my own room twice and shared a room with my last son. Seriously thinking of paying for my own room next time don't know how much though. I definitely didn't like sharing you just do not know who you'll get.
