hi, from friends of mine they have kids that have autistic tendancies but no diagnosis and others with a confirmed diagnosis fish oil is pretty good.
Apparently if helps clear up communication in the brain, stops such confusion in there.
you can get chewable capsules or you can pierce the capsule and it is an oil that you can squirt into food or drink to hide if you choose.
i also knwo a child psycholgist who highly recommends a good trial of fish oil for many children with bahaviour/impulsiveness issues
i tried it with my middle child, he is 5 but i am yet to find a way of disguising it well enough! i also bought the "yucky" ones! i bought the chemists own brand in tutti frutti flavour,
good luck

hi. my daughter is not yet on fish oil but i was going to ask her pead about it. the research that i have read has suggested that fish oil is good for development and behaviour in children. my intererest stems from a speech point of view and autistic point of view. my dd has significant speech problems and autistic tendencies and and i am going to trial it on her. apparently kids with some of these disorders have the myelin that coats the nerve fibres missing to help transmit messgages from the brain...the fish oil (certain ones) apparently help the myelin to recoat the nerve fibres. studies have shown a marked increase in good behaviour and in speech in children with these disordes...pretty exciting i say!! iit is a road that i am prepared to go down to see results...the only thing is be careful which ones you buy. you really need to buy the ones without colourings and flavourings which are horrible tasting, but better. i bought the kidsmart ones for my five year old and i found it sent her the other way as she is sensative to anything with colourings..so just be careful which you use..

I've also heard of it in relation to attention/impulsive behaviour. DD2 is hopeless at swallowing anything, otherwise might have persevered with it, but I have read some stuff, sorry I can't recall where. Be interested to see if the paed is up on it and if he thinks it's ok or too 'alternative' If he does, keep chasing info on it.
I would suggest you check your source if that is the way you plan to go though. My hubby did a lot of research on it and we get a distilled fish oil from the USA as most don't have the impurities distilled out of them so you want the best quality. PM me if you want details on what we get. There is a liquid and capsules.

Some are better than others. Alex has the metagenics practisioner only brand- it's orange flavoured and I give him 5mls by dropper. He really likes it but be careful as it stains and it smells!!!!!!!

Hi I was actually just about to start a thread on this when I saw yours. A lot of people and professionals have suggested it to me for DS and today I bought some of the Nature's Own ones. They say pre-school and then it says from 6 months. It's a liquid capsule that you cut the end off and mix into the food. I'm going to try it for a while and just see how we go.
