I have Gina Fords book "the new contented little baby" and also Tizze Halls book "save our sleep".

I think they are both great and I want to get my daughter into one of their routines. I think they are both pretty similar but the problem is that Gina ford says to let bub nap no more than 3 hours in total during the day. Tizzie Hall on the other hand suggests two hour naps.

Is it necessary for them to not sleep too long during the day so they will sleep better at night or is it ok to let them have a two hour nap like my DD does?

I hate waking her but I will if it means she sleeps better at night.

Anyone had an experience with these routines?

Hi.i recently posted a thread about tizzie hall asking if anyone has used her methods.quite a few people said they tried her's and it really worked.
Iv got her book too.(save our sleep)
I taken on board the advice she gives, but im not so strict on it.My DD is a cat napper,i think cos she sleeps so great at night.I put her to bed at 7,give her a dream feed at 10ish and she goes through to till about 5-5:30 then falls back asleep again.
i only really wanted it for the "self settling" part.usually by the time it comes for DD to have her sleep she is soo tired,it doesnt take much effort at all.but like i said, she wont sleep long during the day,but great at night.

My maternal health nurse advised me against the gina ford one- i have the book, and was going nuts trying to fit into the schedule. i think that one only works if you are really strict with it, which in my opinion is impossible. the tizzie hall one is much more natural and relaxed approach, so my advice would be to try that one. but i have a restless cat napper who wakes up every few hours so im probably not in any position to be giving advice....

I am not too familiar with Tizze but have tried Gina's routine. It was too restrictive that we just couldnt do outdoor things with bub.
I now loosely follow Gina's routine as long as bub (4 1/2 mths) gets approx 3 hours sleep in a day and bub has been sleeping through the nite. I put him down between 6-7pm, has a dream feed between 10 -11pm and he sleeps until 7am.
His day sleep is still quite unpredictable - it can be anywhere between 40mins and 1 1/2 hours. If he does the latter in the morning, I'd wake him naturally and he seems to be fine with it.

StellasMummy we are struggling on arent we!!...i went to sleep school and they did teach a few things to help extend the catnaps, mostly just resettling in the cot.It has helped, she now goes down for about 40 minutes each time which is better than the 10 minutes i was getting...you are lucky you are getting night sleep though im jealous!

This is the same as my DS. He is one now, and alternating between two and one sleep per day. He's only ever had one good sleep a day and cat naps, but usually sleeps well at night.

I tried the routine thing (was desperate for it) when he was very young but found it too distressing when he wouldn't fit it exactly.

However, I found Tizzie Halls book gave me the confidence to teach our DS to self settle and it was one of the best things we've done.

i am outraged by this woman, this woman tells u how to look after your baby from day 1, u r not even allowed to find your own childs cues when they are hungry or tired u must follow the exact instructions of the book. what ever happened to maternal instincts well let me tell u gina ford wont let u be maternal from the way u set up the nursery to when u put your baby on solids, this is not real parenting..... ur baby will give u cues when it wants something how can a book know when your child is hungry, and if 600 people put there child on gina ford diets then we are living amongst 600 hundred people who are exactly the same what happened to good old fashion individualality oh thats right gina ford says all children are the same.

The OP was asking if people had experience with these routines. If you don't like them, that's fine, plenty don't, just don't comment when the OP was asking a specific question.

Some mums find that the structure helps them to better understand their babies and helps them develop their own routine.

I have Tizzie Halls book and it saved us. My DD was sleeping really well and then started waking. We changed a few things in her routine and she is now sleeping through the night again. I found it good because of its flexibility and there were so many different options for different aged children. It also explained why she believes in these different routines and gave some background on babies habits. Loved it. Would recommend it to anyone having restless nights.:baby:

:iagree:
I tend to follow the tizzie hall routine but i have added a few tweaks of my own to suit my routine.Like gummybear said, some mums find it useful to follow a routine and then adjust them to suit them!!!! whats the harm in that? im sure most mums would not just let their bubs screams themselves into hysterics!
