i have posted a post on another thread found here http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=19124
basically my DS had gastro now he is better but cant handle formula or custards unless they are soy custards. he gets the runs otherwise. when he was younger he used to spew at the slightest taste of banana until he was 7 months old and was fine with bannana. is this something like that? or should i get him checked for allergies?
Hi Jess,
Could be that his little tummy is still not 100% from after the gastro or he could be slightly lactose intolerant...Has has had other symptoms?

since my last post in this thread he hasnt been able to have anything with diary in his food. he was fine with dairy after gastro it seemed to just happen over night :confused: coz we thought he was going so well with the gradual intro fo milk again.
but his MCHN comes this morning so we are going to ask her if we should get him tested. he has a rash on his cheeks that appereared yesturday after i gave him weetbix with dairy milk. cows milk blocks him up now. we dont knwo what to do coz we havent had any problems like this before

Lactose Intolerance Symptoms & Signs
* Abdominal cramps
* Bloating
* Flatulence
* Weight loss
* Malnutrition
* Slow growth
* Abdominal distention
* Abdominal fullness, gaseous
* Diarrhea
* Floating stools
* Foul-smelling stools
Symptoms often follow ingestion of milk products and are often relieved by withdrawal of milk products. Large doses of milk products may cause worse symptoms.
i found this on a gogle search on http://health.allrefer.com/health/lactose-intolerance-symptoms.html
cody has had a slow weight gain for the past few months but his mchn put down to him being active. his poo smells foul :laughing: he can clear a room when he farts which seems to alot and he gets diarrhea from custards and baby food with diary in it. cows milk block him up then he has gross smelling poo. is it enough to ask for a test?

i told my MCHN and she sia dit could be he isnt still 100% after gastro and i told her how he was fine for a few dyas on full strength cows milk and that formula gave him runs then. and that now cows milk was blocking him up she said it was strange. and so now we are giving him soy stuff instead of dairy for 2 or 3 weeks then we re-introduce dairy to see if it happens again coz it may mean he needs to be tested if it does.

i hadnt thought of rice milk thanks i will pick some up :) the dr who examined my DS on thrusday night told me "try formula again" well i spent half the night up with a screaming 1 year old who couldnt sleep coz of a sore tummy :thumbsdown:
we are trying not to worry lots about the results we are hoping its jsut a side effect from the gastro he had
Hi jessgray.
My 6 month old daughter had a similar thing after having a bout of gastro. When I gave her about 50ml of s26gold she was throwing up for 2 hours and 2 days later did a poo that was so foamy it looked like shaving cream. We got her allergy tested at the peadiatician who did an allergy test for cows milk. This test involved him putting some drops of the allergen onto her skin (on her back while she laid on my knees) and then pricked the skin. She then had to lay there for 5 minutes. Ended up being that she is allergic.
Hope this helps you out.

If the child is allergic they will get some sort of reaction. Most of the time it is a raised red lump. Basically they induce a reaction. If they have to do the tests get them to do wheat and egg as well. May as well do the lot at once if you have to do it.
I have girlfriend whose little boy is allergic to diary, wheat and eggs. Not much fun for her as it will mean she has to make most of his food from scratch.
My naturopath says that if there is an allergy, given the correct treatment children can overcome the allergies. If you believe in or are willing to try it that might be an option for you. If there is damage due to the gastro then healing the lining might be helpful.
Good luck. :fingerscrossed:

thanks for explaining it :) allergies are such a forgien ground for me. i read in a book called "what to expect the 1st year" that allergies can be passed on. it said someone in the family could have asthma and another could get hives and another could be fataly allergic to peanuts or something. i found that really intresting coz i get hayfever really bad and have asthma and DP gets asthma when he is sick. and my mum gets hayfever and is allergic to one of her cats (she refuses to get rid of the cat lol) and my sister gets hives from mushrooms and she is asthmatic. my other sister is asthmatic and so is one of my brothers.
so from what i read there is a chance cody will have a form of an allergy ? :confused:
we are really sure that if it isnt lactose intolerance the gastro did some pretty bad damage to him. last night i tried him on soy milk again he drank it all then 30 mins later spewed it up on my leg lol
when cody was younger he was really sensitve to bannana and my MCHN advised to hold off on it till he was older to see if it happened again and he was fine when he was 7 months. he doesnt really eat egg at home im not sure about day care lol wheat? might sound silly but does that include stuff like porridge? he has become a huge fan of porridge with apple & mango puree.
sorry bout it being long

Porridge is a great brekky as it is a protein food. There is not wheat in it.. My daughter cannot have wheat, so we had to swap back to porridge after trying weetbix. It would not hurt to cut out all wheat for a week or so and see if it makes any difference, as wheat protein (gluten) is really hard for human bodies to digest. Bridie has Dinkelbrot bread (no wheat:rolleyes: ) she has wheat free biscuits, rice cakes, the list goes on. Wheat is in so many things, but you can get wheat free alternatives to most things as well.

thanks :) cody went off weet-bix around the time he got gastro and hasnt wanted it since. can i get gluten free rasin bread? he loves rasin bread. he has taken well to rice cakes :thumbsup: and he loves pasta all the gluten free stuff that would be in the health food part of the supermarket right :D?
i am going to go ring up the dr later to see if the results are back yet.:fingerscrossed: they werent back yesturday morning

Yep, we get rice and corn pasta. When its drowned in sauce, you wouldn't know the difference. As for raisin bread, I don't know. It would be good though...

i went to the dr's yesturday and the test results were back cody is lactose intolerant. so i have to go make a appointment with his peadtrician today. the dr said to ask pead for a test to see if cody is allergic to gluten and egg. and if he reacts in the mena time to them just to cut them out of his diet.
ody attends daycare 2 days a week and they write what he does for the day in a book that i can take home. ( i ussaully do so DP can read it) my question is should i write cody's allergy in there or on a peice of paper?:confused:
MamaSage

I would write in on the cover of the book, on the front page and make sure you tell all the staff in the centre. Just to be sure, YK?
Anyway, I am happy for you having an answer, it should make things easier for you to manage now! :smiliedance:

it does make it easier coz at first DP thought it was just gastro and when he picked me and Ds up from the dr's i said its not gastro he is lactose intolerant. DP said he was starting to think i was right :D
:thumbsup:
i think i will write codys allegy stuff on the inside of the frount cover in a bright colour. i would type it up but the printer doesnt like me lol it wont load when i try to load paper and it works for DP and he is at the hairdressers:laughing:
