Hi ladies,

My friend has just got her first BFP :yelclap:. She is 12 DPO. We are a little confused (we are both new to this) we used a due date calculator and it came up that she was 4 weeks pregnant, how can this be when she is only 12 DPO??

Your CD1 counts as the beginning of pregnancy. So she is almost 2 weeks past ovulation, but she also started her cycle 2 weeks before that.

If that make sense?

Sorry .....We are both sitting here with the giggles as we are confused (pathetic really). So even though she wouldn't have been pregnant 4 weeks ago it is counted from then

it is taken from the first date of your last period

 Yep thats right.

Most people find out they are pregnant at around 4 - 5 weeks ......

A Pregnancy is counted as 40 weeks, but is actually only 38 weeks from the date of conception.

Yep! From the day that she got her period starts the pregnancy count. Even though there wasn't an egg fertilized, it counts. Doesn't make much sense really, but thats how it works.

Just think of it as a bonus. You're pregnant for 40 weeks, but only aware of it for maximum of 36 weeks. You get a four week head start!!

I got a BFP last Tues but I know I am DPO17 I add 2 weeks to that. Everyone here has said you add 2 weeks to that. That's how you find out when you are due. I have always had a dating scan to tell me my EDD as I have a really long cycle and when I did my EDD on thecalculator it's coming up 21st March but I think if I add 11days to that, that is when I am really due. It happened with all my pregnancies.

Ok, to confuse you even more, your friend is technically 3 weeks and 5 days....according to her ovulation date. Most EDD are calculated based on your last period, but its actually more correct basing it on your ovulation date. As most women dont know when they ovulated/conceived, its easier to go by the last period date. Since she knew when she ovulated and therefore conceived, it would make her 4 weeks on Wednesday. When I conceived ds, I was on cd70-something, so the dr automatically thought I was like 12 weeks already. But, I knew that I was actually only 9 dpo (and was right). Hope that made sense, haha :)

here's a calculator that will help calculate your due date based from ovulation -
