My 7month old DS has eczema on his chin and around his mouth. Our GP prescribed Sigmacort ointment and we have been using this for a month now three times a day. I only use it when his skin flares up. The results haven't been wonderful. The areas are now a little flaky and rough, so I'm wondering if we should try something else?

He is bathed every second day using soap free Curash wash and doesn't have eczema elsewhere apart from a dry area behind his knee. I don't apply any moisturiser to his face.

Should I try a different bath wash, like QV, Dermaveen, Alpha Keri or go back to the GP?

We didn't get real results from many things until we got an allergy test done.

But the things that do work for us are Cetomacrogol cream, liquorice root cream, and Apicare honey hand cream.

Mamalicious, where do you get those creams from? Are they available over the counter or by script only? And how much do they cost?

my son had the worst eczema when he was around the same age and lasted on and off until he was one.. he gets a little now but he had it on his whole body when he was a bub, red raw and would bleed from scratching.:(

he still have very very sensitive skin.

dont use anything with lavendar.. some bath products that say they are eczema friendly have lavendar in them.. (what a joke) that made his skin flair up more then anything.

also i didnt find that any kind of sorbelene creams did anything what so ever but made it worse!!

when he would get really bad and sticky under the arms, neck, and knees i used sudocrem!! i think its one of the best things ever!! and it smells really good, which is good cos i used to be sad cos i couldnt use the nice baby bath products. which really there no good anyway.

also i have always used baby powder that has never affected him.

alpha keri wash and bath oil are fantastic!!!!! i have used them for over a yr now, anytime his skin looks like its getting bad again i just put more oil in the bath.

im also able to use the curash bath wash to. its made in australia (not like all the johnsons products) and its soap free. when i didnt have the alpha kerri wash or when his skin wasnt to bad id just use curash and the alpha kerri oil.

also what do u use for washing powder? i use a liquid washing powder its plant derived its called purity its in a light blue bottle with a baby on the front, it lasts for ages and ages its around $3.90 a bottle. also i stopped using farbric softener i can use it now as hes older and has grown out of it a bit but i still only use a sensitive and use half of what im meant to.

i didnt find that any creams from the doctors helped at all unfortunately, and hopefully it is a case that ur little one will grow out of it a bit to, alot of babys that have eczema dont have it when there kids, and alot of kids that have it dont have it when they are adults.

goodluck i know how hard it is.:(

The liquorice root cream is made in NZ but there is a lady on here who's stocking it now, I'll get the link to the thread. It's $13.50 for 50g which sounds like a tiny amount but you only need the smallest amount because it spreads so well.

Here (http://www.thehoneyfarm.com.au/acatalog/Apicare_Therapy.html) is a stockist for the Apicare cream, I usually pay just over $16 a tube, and the cetomacrogol is available at the chemist or you can get a script from your GP which would make it free.

I use BEE Laundry liquid (http://www.organicsaustraliaonline.com.au/prod1762.htm) which is the only thing that works for us, aswell as only wearing natural fabrics.

have you tried a natural sorbelene cream after the bath? my little one had shocking eczema until i bought natures way sorbeline from the supermarket, smothered her in it twice or three times a day, seriously not a problem since.
might not work for everyone but worth a try.

I had really bad exczema as a baby, and still get it now. I found the worst thing is washing powder, if someone uses something different, like on my undies, I will feel as if my bottom is burning! Not fun!

The only thing I can use is Planet Ark one (but NOT the Aware one), it has no perfumes or phosphates. Recently I have only been able to buy it at IGA. My mum used to get some stuff from amway which was really good, but I dont know anyone who sells it!

Also my friend has a bub who had horrendous eczema as a bub, and it was cos he was lactose intolerant, so it could even be a food allergy

I am wondering, as it is around his mouth, does your son dribble a lot or chew teething things? I have found moisture really irritates mine, ie in summer i get it behind my knees and in my elbows from sweat?
