Just curious to find out what people wash their child with.

Have tried 2 types of body washes but the eczema has become more rough. One was the QV and the other was.. hmm can't remember at the moment.

So any ideas.. please let me know.
Thanks

my bubs doesn't have eczema but has a lot of skin allergies and i found that gaia baby wash is the only thing she doesn't react to. my sister however has very severe eczma and my mother swears by pears soap. it is gentle enough for babies also.
there is also anothwer one that my sister uses and next time i see her i wills ask her for you. her skin gets so bad that it bleeds if she even touches it but she has managed to get it under control and i will ask her how she did it.

Usually just water and sometimes QV. He doesnt have a bath everday either (unless he is really dirty or after daycare). Usually every second day.

My SIL was just around with her 6 mth old bub who has a little bit of bad eczema and she washed her in a sorbolene soap and today it seems a lot less red and irritated.. maybe try that?

Nothing. Warm water is the only thing that didn't make his eczema flare up. i also rarely use moisterisers and things like that ecause I've found none of them to be helpful. My eczema reacts to alcohol so even a basic sorbolene cream sets my skin off and seems to be the same with DS.

Thanks ladies... the other wash that hasn't helped was dermaveen and now i'm trying the gaia baby wash.. so i'll see how that goes.
I don't use any moisterisers - have tried but don't see any results.

J&J...... what bad advice! That is basically eczema in a bottle, gosh you must have been cranky....
We use (atm) Carmaje Bath Oil (google ;)) it has been magic. The money I have spent on creams and solutions lately and this stuff wiped the eczema off her ankles in 2 days.... amazing. It had been stubbornly unmovable for months... We find we need an oil in winter time (was recommended by the lady at the eczema stall at the PBC expo last year) During summer Gaia bath wash or Carmaje Head, Shoulders, Knee's & Toe's are both fine. Sorbolene cream.... I wouldn't recommend it. Chock full of petrochemicals... not that they advertise the fact but it is.... yuck. I cant believe the stuff they are allowed to sell!

Grahams Bath oil is excellent and keeps babies skin so moist after a warm bath. I also use the cream by the same people, I got them both from my local health food shop. IMO I like to steer clear of QV, dermaveen etc as they still contain so many chemicals which just doesn't sit right with me.

Warm water with some olive oil (from the chemist). She has never had a problem with her skin. ;)

Most commercial baby washes even the QV,Dermaveen washes are chock full of chemicals.

Gaia has no chemicals but the best is just warm water.

My boy had eczema as a baby and we were told to just use warm water.Worked great:yelclap:

Try OATS...yep just plan old black and gold breakfast oats, put them in a stocking and leave them in the bath. The bath goes milky coloured but you will find bub will smell fine ( not like porrige!) and will be soft to touch. They sell quite a few oat type bathing powder and liquids at the chemist but charge super high prices but if you read the label it will be oats in like sorbelene base or something similar. Anyway bath bub in it and when you take them out of the bath, gently pat them dry as the oats leave an invisible layer on the skin which has proven stop itch properties. If bubby has a rash use cornflour, not the JJ brand just the same one you use for cooking. I have used this myself for years and also on my children who have eczma/dermatitis.
give it a try, its cheap and natuaral with nothing in it that can harm them.
Kellie
P.S. After bubby has a bath grab the stocking of oats fill a bucket with warm water add oats and put your feet in for a great soak, use the stocking to give yr feet an exfolliate while u watch your happy itch free bub play!!! lol (be sure to use fresh oats and stocking for bubs next bath!)

Love the oats idea! I am going to try that one.

If bubs skin is flared and real itchy I can highly recommend pinetarsol from the chemist. We tried everything to ease the redness and itchy from ds2's skin it was so bad it looked like he has the measles and 48hrs and 2 baths later the redness was gone (obviously not the eczema) And when it is manageable I swear by Alpha keri oils/lotion/bath wash that is magic!!!

Dermaveen burnt his skin and made him 100 times worse as did QV I will never use them again. ds1 was ok with them though?

Good luck xx

Agree - never worked for my little one, I don't know how most mum's recommend it..

Plain water is best. I also found "the natural source" moisturiser brilliant. And the shampoo - I use it myself all the time, and once a week on baby (someone told me washing their hair makes it grow faster - my little one has a thick head of hair already - coincidence...,mmm?)

misskelz77 - How much of the oats to the bath do you use? At least I can recycle my odd knee-high-stockings now... LOL :yelclap:

You just chuck a handful in a stocking, i generally use it just once on bub and my son Jyett but like i said, recycle it for yr self to soak tired cracked feet!!
Flick81 mentioned using oatmeal product, this is what i was saying about variety at the chemist but so overpriced, there is nothing in the oats that can harm bub and if you are at all worried you can do a search on the net about the positives of oats.
I forgot to mention to steer clear of wool or woolen clothes as it causes immense itch to sufferes of eczma and dermatitis!
I have tried goats milk soap also and i used it on my son but it tended to make us worse, i guess it depends on the person. A problem in our house was also the washing powder, thats a real test and try but i usual was a pillowcase in something i want to try out and by morning i can tell if it is going to be no good for my skin. I use Amolin sensitve liquid and i do a double rinse for the kids clothes, alot of extra effort but it saves dramas in the long run.

We just wash ds in warm water and about twice per week we will put the "QV Flare up" bath oil in. Before bed we also put "Dermeze" on him, this has really helped his skin.

My little one scratches her self so much she bleeds and I have tried everything to help her and nothing did.

The one thing I have recently found that is working really well are the Diva excema baby products, but they are not cheap!

All natural macadamia bath oil. She smeels nice and it softens her skin beautifully. Sadly it doesn't take away the itch, the pead had to give her meds for that...

I have just started using goats milk soap in the last week and so far it is going really well. Most of her eczema is now gone and her skin now longer looks angry and no longer dry and scaly.

I also atopiclair after her bath.

My DD doesn't have eczema, but we do have a family history of it and her skin has been very dry this winter so I'm being careful - I usually use Gaia, but at the moment I'm just using water as her skin has been really flaky. Then slathering her with Gaia soothing cream.

I havent read the reply posts yet, so if someone hasnt suggested this i suggest Gaia bath and body wash, i found it in Coles in the baby aisle at approx $11 a pop for a bottle  but its organic and really good stuff! Id tried Dermaveen and QV wash etc but this stuff is really good  There has been a massive change in my DS skin and ive only been using it for five days.

The hospital recommended we use Johnsons.

lol I work for J&J and even I wouldn't recommend our products for bubs with excema!!! :p

AVENE (not Aveno) is the most AMAZING product for excema, it is french and they actually have it listed on their PBS system over there...it really is a miracle product. Over in france they also have a health resort funded by the gov for people to go and stay who have severe excema to get treatment with the products....amazing results have been acheived.

Part of there range is trixera bath and moisturiser, it is made from natural spring water from the french alps- it actually gets tapped underground so it is pure and sterile- doesn't even come into contact with O2...

I could rave about the stuff all day long!! :D Expensive but for bad excema, so recommended.

Hey SalTheGal where abouts do you get the AVENE from? I have never tried it before but if you have read previous posts i get eczma as do my kids and would love to find a moisturiser that i could use daily other than sorbelene etc.... it would be worth giving it a try as i am like a scaley snake at the moment and cant keep myself moisturised enough!

If you go to the Avene website, you can look up stockists in your area - mostly chemists. But they don't normally stock everything, so maybe call first to make sure they have what you want....

I actually picked up a tube of the Trixera moisturiser the other day, but I found it irritates my little one's skin. I think it cost about $30 - $35, so not happy Jan.

I hate throwing money away!

Still, as someone else wisely said, what works for one person may not work for another...

We have just started using the Alpha Keri bath oil, but I have just realised that the paraffin it contains is actually a petroleum derivative.. Am I stupid to be concerned? Should I keep using it or try something more natural like the Carmaje bath oil someone mentioned???

Any thoughts??

Hi,
Thanks for that, yes i to hate throwing away money but i went to the web site yesterday and emailed them to request a sample of there products, they emailed me back right away and said they would put a few things in the mail for me today!
I might try this with a few other products i want to try but am nervous about spending money on if they react with my skin! Maybe you could do this with the product you wish to try???

Yep for DD6 we used goats milk soap in the bath and nothing else. Then out of the bath we use calandula cream...When we are consistant it works a treat.

Aquaoil...available from selected Coles, there is a website. I use the baby one for bathing and a massage one for everyday use.
It is just pure and essential oils no additives and doesn't leave skin oily or slimey or make you feel overheated.
