Hi all, Just a question for those in these areas... Which is better to move to?
I have lived in the country for 15yrs (grew up in Melb tho) and am looking to move to one of these areas
*Narre Warren Nth/Sth
or
*Berwick

Just wondering the following.
*Can I rent a 3-4bedroom home $300 or under a week?
*Which has the best Public Primary School, Kindergarden?
*Which has the best access to jobs for someone like me who doesn't have a car?
*Which has a Friendly school/neighbourhood/Community?
*Would you recomend any of these areas?

My boys have grown up in this country town and they are very nervous, scared of moving as they love there school/teachers and don't get bullied there. So i want to make them as comfortable as possible with the best area, home, school.

If you don't recomend any of these, I am open to suggestions of a area you think is good, my kids are no1 so I want a place that has good communitys & good public schools.

I live in the Emerald area. Its nice and peaceful, theres Emerald Primary in town, then Menzies Creek primary bout 10mins out with 150 kids max! (the kids go there) so if u feel like moving out this way its nice :D Ill look into rental prices now

We moved to Narre Warren South from overseas almost 4 years ago & love it here.

We own our own home now but were able to rent a 5 bedroom house for approx $1200 a month when we first moved. There seem to be a lot of nice, modern houses avail for rent in the area.

Schools in the area are generally ok. I don't want to name the school my daughter went to but we were happy with it (feel free to PM me if you want details).

Public transport out this way is a bit of a drag - the bus system can be a bit unreliable. Having said that, we made do without a car for 8 months...but I wouldn't recommend it. It would be the same in Narre Nth & Berwick.

Not sure about jobs as I'm a SAHM.

I guess the community is what you make it. I've made a point of getting out & meeting people & getting involved in various groups, so it's been easy to make friends in the area. Keep a positive attitude & you'll be fine!!

Good luck with your move & if you'd like to have coffee sometime or you'd like more info on the area, feel free to contact me (I don't bite!).

Narre Warren South is a great area. We also moved from the country (SW Vic) and recently bought a house in Narre Warren South.

Public transport is great, plenty of schools and childcare, close to shops, great community and I do believe you would be able to find a place to rent fitting your criteria and within your budget. And best of all, you'd be living near me.

If you want any other info PM me at your leisure.

hello :) heres my personal opinion about the 2 areas you have in mind. they are both good. you may find it easier to find rent in narre warren, but check out realestate.com anyway and see what you can find in there. i know these 2 areas really well. i live in endeavour hills, and most of my family lives in those 2 suburbs. personally, i like berwicks community more than narre warren, but that is the only comparison opinion i have for you. regardless of the area you move too, these are quite close together so you can travel and shop in both area pretty comfortably. id like to also suggest some other suburbs you could look at. belgrave and belgrave heights, althoguh you might be pressed to find cheap rent there, endeavour hills, we pay just over half of what you wnat to pay per week, but we are lucky and have a good deal here. noble park is absolutly fantastic, regardless of any rumors being spread around. the community is great, they have one of the best play groups there, which i travel to every week from my suburb. you are close to every kind of transport that you could need to get around. and its quite reasonably priced. all those areas like upwey, emerald and cockatoo, are great community areas which are friendly, and smallish, but pricey. just remember where ever you move to, will be the place your kid/s cherish and grow up in and remember for the rest of there lives, so it would be worth looking online for pictures and info on the communities before you move out. good luck :)

Personally, I would love to live in Berwick. It feels like a country town but near enough to the city, and Fountain Gate shopping centre isn't far away, so you've got tons of shops. It's beautiful there.

Berwick has retained a lovely village feel to it's town despite all the development going on in and around it. It's a lovely town that has all the relevant facilities (banks, PO, bakeries-very important:D) as well as supermarkets.

Narre warren, on the other hand, has kind of grown around the development. It was once a tiny spot and gradually it has been built around with housing and massive shopping centres-Westfield etc... it lacks the community feel that Berwick has.

Both are on the train line although Berwick has a Monash campus and a Chisolm as well plus it has Casey hospital and a 24 hr clinic, although I haven't been to it.

I think-someone correct me if I am wrong-that school enrollment now depends on postcode, as it did many years ago. This means you will be limited to choose a school based on postcode, so it may pay to look into schools first. Are you planning on state school? I have a small amount of knowledge on some schools in the area if you want to know more. :)

It depends on the school. If in doubt, it's best to ask before you move. My daughter attends a school we're not in zone for - so it is possible to get into zoned schools even if you're out of zone (but obviously a lot harder).

Oh, thanks for that. I know the growth in this area is so huge that schools and kinder's are struggling to keep up, so I imagine there would have to be some give and take.
