Hi there

We are doing lunch tomorrow for family. We got a boneless 3kg piece (i call it a slab!) of lamb. Trouble is we are worried that if we leave the meat in the slow cooker at a low heat, the risk of food poisoning and bacteria would multiply incredibly (im a food safety supervisor at work and know how dangerous it can be).
We have cut the meat into 3 pieces so its not large hunk.

Can we cook it in the slow cooker or are we risking things too much? We dont want the meat to dry out either.... any help?

Thanks
STM

I do roasts in the slow cooker. the slow cooker for dummies book that I have says that there is a risk of bacteria etc developing if you put your meat in frozen, but that it is fine as long as the meat is not frozen.

Hi i am a qualified chef at a large hotel firm in tas. Anyway your meat is not going to get contiminated by cooking in the slow cooker. THats a bit of an extremity(sp) anyway the way to cook the perfect roast in the slow cooker is to scrunch up foil and place some liquid in the bottom and place your meat on top of it. You can then use the juices for gravy. And yes seal it first. Trust me it will be fine!!! You could cook on high if you were really worried just put extra liquid in the bottom to keep the moisture in. Have a lovely day and enjoy.
