Does anyone have any ideas for some cheap & easy tapas type dishes etc. We are going to dinner tonight with some friends and have to bring some dishes to have tapas. They have more money than us & are better in the kitchen. I have no idea what to make & what types of things people have for tapas.
Can anyone please help me, I'm feeling very overwhelmed.

hmmm.. thinking

well, Chorizo is very spanish, cheap and easy ... I cut them on the diagonal and fry them off with some garlic, sherry, chilli and olive oil and serve with toothpicks to pick them up. I get it from the deli at coles.

spicy meatballs cooked in a tomato based sauce.. very easy.. make up a meatball mixture (mince, breadcrumbs, eggs, spices etc) roll in small balls and fry til brown, then simmer in a tomato sauce (I cheat sometimes and use a jar pasta sauce) sprinkle with fresh herbs to make it look very spec

stuffed olives in a pretty little dish?

a potato tortilla is VERY spanish and cheap. slice potatoes thickly, chop some onion, fry both in a heavy pan (I use a cast iron one) in a little oil on med. heat til cooked through...beat some eggs, pour over mix... cook til brown on bottom... stick under grill until done on top... you could serve this either in the pan, or turned out and cut into small squares

hope some of that helps! :) .. I love coming up with menus esp. when it's a 'theme' thing!

I was going to say Chorizo as well.

There are 2 potato things you can make that are Spanish, fairly easy and cheap.

1. Potatas Bravas
Which is basically cubed potato fried in Olive Oil until golden brown, sprinkle with Salt and Pepper then you pour a spicy tomato sauce(like pasta sauce) over the top. You could just heat up some bought basic pasta sauce and add chilli and smoked paprika, simmer for 10-15 minutes. Take them seperately, then pour over when you get there.

2. Potato and Aioli
The same potatoes as before but a bit chunkier and serve with an Aioli dippling sauce. Aioli is garlic Mayo, so buy some good Egg Mayo and stir thru some fresh crushed garlic and some lemon juice.

You could also, do some marinated olives. Buy a few different types of olives in jars (you don't have to use the expensive ones), then roast in the oven with olive oil, lemon or orange peel, some stalks of fresh thyme or rosemary, crushed garlic for around 15 minutes. You could also do some roast red capsicum to go with it.

YUM!

I have often made some 'tuna toasts' and they have always been a hit with ppl asking for the recipe/how to make them. They are nicer than they sound and taste expensive LOL . They are cheap and easy so if you would like the info just pm me :D.
