View Full Version : How to Clean a Burnt Saucepan?
I think this has been posted before but I cant seem to find anything:confused:
So, whats the best (quickest and easiest) was to clean a burnt saucepan? I cooked some lentils the other day and they really stuck to the bottom and I just cant seem to get them off.
Thanks
Put some vinegar and water in it and boil it for a while scraping the bottom every so often.

If the surface of the saucepan has no special coatings, I like a good go with oven cleaner if something sticks to my stainless steel pot. It works well on corningware, too.

Sprinkle some bicarb soda in the bottom of the pan so it covers the entire bottom of the saucepan.
Pour some white vinegar on top and watch it bubble and sizzle, leave it for a while and then try giving it a scrub later on. If it is still difficult you can repeat this.
I burnt a pan earlier in the week and it worked a treat. I left it overnight.
Environmentally friendly to boot!

I found the best thing was to leave it out in the sun for a day or so. Peels right off!

 Burnt out lentils in a saucepan
I always do that when I'm cooking up food for my little man!!
I usually just put some washing up liquid and water in the bottom and let it sit over night... works for me... and I do it reguarly
...but after reading this thread, I might try a few of these other ideas!
My mum always tells me to use rhubarb leaves when I burn stuff to my pots...apparently you just break them up a bit and put them in with some water and boil for a while...just make sure you wash the pot well after coz they are poisonous
I've never gotten around to doing that one, but it must work coz thats what my nana told me too.
I always just put dishwashing liquid and hot water and leave it soak overnight, then if it wont come clean in the morning I just put a bit more in and leave it to soak again...repeat til the pot is nice and clean again.
Must try the oven cleaner next time, I use that to clean the oven trays when they start looking a bit grubby...probably coz I cook chips way too often lately :o
Thanks Ill try some of those - soaking has not worked at all so far:(
Throw it out & buy a new one! LOL
I did the same thing to a brand new wok - first time I used it I burnt my stir fry into the bottom of it - I'll have to give some of these suggestions a shot.
