I use a Maggi packet mix for spaghetti Bog but I substitute the crushed tomatoes with tomato soup. It comes out really creamy and rich. It's yumm.

I suck with making stuff from scratch.. I am the packet mix queen :p

I just made bolognase this morning for tonight, and some to freeze .

IMO you need to use 2/3 beef mince and 1/3 pork mince, makes it a lot more flavoursome and rich.

I fry off onion and garlic, add the mince. The trick is to break it up in the pan as much as you can with a wooden spoon or similar, then put the lid on for a min or two, then when you take the lid off the meat will break up a lot easier. I like to well and truly brown the mince before I put the sauce in. I then add a jar of bolognase sauce (just one from the supermarket), a tin of good crushed tomatoes (not the home brand), and tomato paste. Stir all that through, then add in some beef stock. If you need rough measurements let me know. I just do it all to taste really.

Simmer it on low, stirring regularly, for about 1-2 hours depending on how much time you have. Make sure it doesn't stick and burn, or it will be ruined! My MIL's secret (prob a well known secret LOL) is to add a teaspoon of vegemite towards the end.. something about the yeast extract.

The italian's dont usually fry the mince, I have tried it that way, but it just isnt as nice .

Goodluck!

Oh better add. I do mine in the slow cooker  But I brown the onion, garlic and mince in a pan first. I also add bay leaves :D

Dp and Ds both love my spag bog.
This is how i make it

do your pasta whichever way

i use about 6 shortcut rashers of bacon diced. cook this off in the frying pan, then remove from pan when cooked. cook off 1 onion diced. Add beef mince, break up with spoon and cook til brown. Then add your cooked bacon back in. Then get 1 whole tin crushed tomatos (any kind) and add those and heat thru. Then add one jar napolitana sauce (raguletto brand) and cook for a few mins, then simmer.

put cooked pasta on plate, top with meat/bacon sauce, grated cheese and some parmesan

tastes great!

This my mums 'special' recipe. I LOVE it, best spag bol IMO!!!

1 onion
garlic - 1-3 cloves, depending on your taste.
olive oil
500g beef mince
500g jar tomatoe paste
2-3 dessertsponns raw sugar - I am guessing the quantitiy with this......start with one or two then taste after it has been cooking for a bit to see if you need more.
1 tbspn each dried - oregano, thyme, sage, basil and mixed herbs
approx 1 litre water or half port half water.

Sautee garlic and onion in olive oil till onion is soft. Add mince, stirring/breaking up till cooked. Add reamining ingredients, combine well, simmer untill sauce thickens, around and hour.

YUMMMMM

Ohhhh, I'll share, only cause I love hubbers so much ;)

This is my Nonna's recipe - actual Nonna born in Italy and all :D

Now, the most important thing with Spag bol is to cook it for hours - put it on 1pm or 2pm and let it simmer (on the lowest setting) for hours - just keep an eye on it and keep adding water so it doesn't dry out.

Place a little butter and oil in saucepan. When butter melts, add 1 large chopped onion, and 3 cloves crushed garlic. Saute until onion is clear.

Add 500g mince, 2 slices chopped salami, salt & pepper. Mix well, and allow mince to brown.

Add dash of soy sauce, 2 beef stock cubes, 1 tsp vegemite and simmer for 1-2 minutes.

Add 2 chopped tomatoes, and simmer until tomato breaks down.

Add 4 tbsp tomato paste and mix. Add enough water to cover sauce and cook steadily, stirring often (adding water to cover sauce).

At end of cooking, add and mix flour to thicken.

Cook Tubular Spaghetti, in a pot of boiling water with salt and oil. Drain and return to saucepan. Pour sauce over top of spaghetti, and while still hot add a good handful of grated cheese and parmesan cheese and stir sauce and cheese through spaghetti and allow to melt.
:D

This is not a shortcut recipe, but we love it.

lol. I will give you a running for the packet mix title. I use one like everyother night. Theya re so easy and yummy. Umm instead of the aslow cooker can ui just do it in a normal pot on the stove? I dont have one....should invest. :p Also is it any good with the normal crushed tomatoes instead of the way you do it?

Thanks everyone for your help. Cant decide which one. Do i have to put vegimite in those saying it? I cant use it as DS excema flares up from it

Probably not - it should be ok without. Never tried it without to be honest, but try and see ;)

That is how I used to do it but instead of the napolitana sauce I used tomato soup and a couple of tablesppons of tomato paste. This is the same one that I use when I make lazagne as well.

Now I am lazy and just use the bottled ready made sauces lol.

DF makes this for me and I absolutely love it....

Mince
1 can tomato soup
Spicy Red sauce
1 onion
Garlic
Wostershire sauce

Basically brown the mince, saute the onion then saute both in with the soup, about 1/4 bottle of spicy red, teaspoon garlic and a dash or 2 of worstershire sauce...

Simmer it down til it is not runny....

Serve..

YUMMMMMY.... I loooove it
