View Full Version : Birth weight compared to fundal height
Hi Everyone,
I'm 37wks and measuring 37cms fundal height, and my tummy is huge... I feel like I'm going to give birth to a toddler!
Did you find that fundal height was an accurate indicator of how big your baby would be?

Mine was measuring the same amount of cms compared to gestation with DS & he was tiny, he only weighed 2500g at 38 weeks, this time I was measuring 27cm at 23 weeks. I hope she isn't too big.
I know exactly how you feel when I was pregnant with DS I felt huge my fundal height was always the same as how many weeks I was but i felt like was going to give birth to a 10pounder. He came out 6p9oz.
I always measure above what Ishould and my babies are all normal sizes.. infact my first DS was estimated as an 8 pounder and he was born just over 6 !
:p
I'm currently measuring 31cms for my fundal height and I'm not quite 28 weeks yet.
Not sure if it relates to the 2 boy before which were 8lb 8oz and 8lb 11oz and both 54ms long?
Not at all. I was measuring MASSIVE and had a 7lb 14 oz baby.

I measured spot on for dates and DS was born 7lb 13 - can't get more "average" than that!!
This one I'm measuring a little bigger, but don't know if it's because I'm pre-stretched!!!
I don't think fundal height or the size of your belly is an indication of the size of the baby. My babies have ranged in size from 7lb 14oz to 8lb 9oz and although I thought I looked big I know a few people who were a fair bit bigger than me and they had babies who were 2lb lighter than mine.

with claire i was messuring the right height all along and she came out 9pd3... with this one im doing the same thing even thought they say hes going to come out bigger if i go to term
hmm really cant remember fundal height with dd
ds#1 measured 2 weeks ahead was born 2 weeks early at 8p8
ds#2 measrured 2-3 weeks ahead was born 17 days early at 7p2
My fundal height was ridiculous - 43cm at 37 weeks and so on. DS was born 9lb 1oz which in my opinion is not huge. They told me he would be around 11lb...

I notice a lot of people say it isn't an accurate measurement... But I was measuring 42 at 38 weeks and my babe was 9 lb 14 ounces. So, I was a whale and cried every day at having to carry 10 kilos of baby, placenta, fluid etc inside me. It hurt! And it was indicative for my babe of size.
Not at all, when i was pregnant with my daughter, i got so big!, when i sat my tummy touched my knees :|, i was told to expect an average 8pd something baby... she was 6pound 13. I agree with myfab4, i dont think size of your belly is an idication to size of baby.
