I've noticed with the routines that some mums have shared all have bubs that can sleep for an hour or two and with bubs that wake once or twic during the nights. So I was wondering, do your bubs put themselves to sleep or do you have to rock/nurse them to sleep???
Also what about the routines of bubs who can only manage the 20 - 40 min naps during the day?? What are your routines like? The reason I'm asking is that Cameron on naps 20-40mins during the day and I'm finding it hard to have a consistent routine as his naps just get in the way!! Or his feeds get in the way of naps!!!
As a result, I play by ear most of the time which in a way is making things hard. I've FINALLY found a routine which so far (for the past few days) has been working.
7ish: wake up and bf
9-9:30ish: nap
10ish: wake up and have solids & bf
12ish: nap
12:30ish: wake up and still be tired but wont go back to sleep unless he's REALLY tired or I'm lucky
3-3:30ish: bf and then nap
4ish: wake up and most of the time I can resettle
5ish: wake up
5:30ish: solids & bf
6ish: bath
6:30-7ish :bf then bed
I'm interested to know what other routines are like....
hello
how old is cameron?
Paiges routine is as follows:
wakes between 6.30-7.30am
- talk to her, dress her, feed her formula and go for morning walk
- 9.00am sleeps for 1-2hrs
wakes for feed and play/tummy time
- 12.30-1pm sleeps for 2hrs
feed, play time, sing
- 5.30pm sleeps for 1hr (this is great as its our dinner time)
wakes and has a half bottle plays with daddy has a bath
more gentle play time (talking cooing and book)
and then feed and bed at
7.30-8pm
sleeps most nights right thru some times wakes for a feed at about 5am and straight back to bed

How do you get Paige to sleep so long during the day? Kayden has been sleeping through the night since he was about 10 weeks (not every night) but during the day he will only sleep 40 mins, sometimes an hour. I put him down while he is still awake but he still wakes after 40 mins. I put him down after 2 hours of awake time.
Howdy!
Will's routine is prolly not as solid as most others. Here is his:
Wake 5:30-9:30 (depending on how tired he is!)
Feed, then back to sleep for about an hour or two.
Then he is up all day and only sleeps for about 40mins every 2-2.5 hours. He is fed every 3 hours roughly. He has his nightime bath anytime between 7-8pm, has a bottle then goes to bed.
I don't force him to sleep longer, and he seems happy with it. As soon as I see him rub his eyes or yawn I put him to bed. Also we don't rock him or pat him to sleep. We used to at first when he was a newborn. Now I just put him in the cot and walk away. He sometimes winges and sometimes I use the dummy, but then sometimes he goes straight to sleep without a fuss. When we are out, he will just fall asleep in the pram or car when he is tired. I try not to hold him to get him to sleep, but sometimes I just love it and have to do it! But also now he is getting older he fights sleep, doesn't want to miss out!
He is a happy little chappy, hardly ever cries so I'm assuming the routine must be working??!!! :D

Hi. My son is 16 weeks old and we have a routine for morning and night, but during the day there's no use having a routine as Xavier will only sleep for about 20-30mins at a time.
In the morning, we wake up, have his reflux medication, have a play, have a feed, go to sleep. He's pretty adamant about waking and then shortly after wanting to have a sleep. This first morning sleep is usually the longest one of the day.
His evening routine consists of - having a little rice cereal, going for a walk, having a bath, b/f if he wants, having a cuddle in the rocking chair and while he's still awake, putting him down in his cot. I have the 'Sounds for Silence' CD which has ambient noises which I play for him and I find it really helps with getting him to sleep.
He might wake 1-2 times during the night for a feed. Then we do it all again!

I was reading everyone's replies and routines and I realised that it all seems so easy and smooth-running!!! Even my own routine for Cameron seems to be smooth sailing when I KNOW that there's a HUGE element of frustration.... is it just me or do you guys feel the same way too?
Jessgray - must be soo exciting for you and cody! Did you do anything special? Happy 1st birthday hugs for Cody! :hugs:
Anaki is 3mths old and still no set routine - although I try.
She wakes up 6am (unless we've been up at 4am and go back to bed at 5am when dad gets up to go to work and then up again at either 6 or 7am). Feed, feed, feed, feed, cry cry, cry, feed feed feed - try to get morning walk in before 9am, feed feed feed cry cry cry play cry feed play then maybe go down for sleep around 11.30am or maybe not sleep at all. Then feed feed feed cry cry cry play, afternoon walk if we are lucky and feeling good at around 3.30/4pm. then feed feed feed cry cry cry play bath between 5-6pm (perhaps too early but have been doing this since day one), feed feed cry cry feed feed cry cry feed feed cry cry play sleep at around 7/7.30pm. then i have "me" time - then take her to our bed (she sleeps with us at night) at around 9.30/10.30 another feed then sleep!!
I can emphasise with the frustration feeling especially when it feels like all she does is feed and play time is almost non existent because sometimes she just feeds and sleeps all day.

I have always had a routine for my little one from the day she was born... Obviously it has changed a bit since she was born, but I find that she likes her comfort zone and what she's used too. At the moment she is 13 months and her routine is as follows:
She wakes 7/7:30am - if she's not awake by 7:30am, I gently wake her. She has breakfast at 8am, usually porridge or toast & vegemite and a cup of watered down juice.
Bottle of milk (been on Cow's milk for a month now) at 10:30am and has a nap. I WAS putting her to sleep before bed, but now I just put her to bed once she's brought up a bit of wind. She goes to sleep by herself by 11am and sleeps for about 2 hours.
Lunch at 1/1:30pm, usually yogurt, fruit or a little sandwhich and a cup of water.
Afternoon Tea at 3/3:30pm, usually a cup of milk and a couple of milk arrowroot biscuits.
Dinner at 6:00pm, always vegetables and water and custard or yogurt for dessert. (yes, she sure can eat!!)
Bath at 6:45pm
Bottle of Milk at 7:15pm
Bed at 7:30pm
Now this is what works for us... even though I've heard so many people say "don't wake a sleeping baby" but I have always woken my little one to fit in with her routine, or it throws the next sleep out and then the next and so on... although now I don't ever wake her from her mid morning nap, because it's the only one she gets now, so sometimes she sleeps an hour and sometimes she may sleep 3! It depends on what sort of day she's had.
Anyway, that's us!
