I had Chloe by caesar at 38.5 weeks and she was fine. Planned caesars are generally booked for 38 weeks, I'm not sure why, maybe to be sure to avoid labour starting. But certainly bubs at 38 weeks are full formed and don't have the health risks of say a 30week baby.
Although "full term" is 40 weeks, I think that's the average. Gestation length between 38 and 42 weeks is normal.

howdy Jes,
you are not the only one, the percentage of women actually deliver exactly on their due dates are not high.
I had Thomas 2 weeks early through an elective C/s at the RNSH (W 3.3 kg, L 51cm, HC 36cm), he is a healthy, happy and good looking bub :D , oh and also he's our first bub...
hope my experience help you to oversee your fear, wish you all the best and don't forget to let us know how you go yeah? :)

Hi there,
I had my little MJ almost 3 weeks ago and she was 13 days early by her own choice :p She is a very happy and contented bub who is very healthy. Other than a bit of Jaundice (which is not uncommon) we've had no problems. She is also my first.
Feel free to PM if you want to chat :D
Goodluck with everything

hi jes,
its also my first pregnancy. im on my 29 weeks now, and have been reading books on pregnancy and baby's developments inside.
i've red in one of my book, that anywhere from 37 weeks onwards, tha baby is considered full term. and so are ready for life outside the uterus.
so maybe you dont have to worry. but still you can ask your practitioner his/her reason behind.
goodluck!!!
:)

Hi Jes
Jacinta graced us with her presence 3 weeks early a healthy 3.2kg with no problems at all. Maydr is correct 37wks onwards is considered full term.
Good luck
Hi ever1,
Just wanted to say thanks for all your comments, I feel a bit more confident now :)
We have our next scan on thursday so hopefully we will still be getting positive feedback about bubs, and will still have 8weeks to go(and no less than that)
Our baby needs to be in hospital in a special care nursery for about 1week. Depending on how early he/she is and how well bubs is feeding will determine how many more weeks/days they need to stay?
Did any1 else have to go home without bubs?
Is it as hard as i think it will be to leave them there?
Thanks jes :)

Hi Jes
I wouldn't worry too much. My baby was born at 30 weeks and she is just fine. They say babies born from 30 weeks onwards having a nearly perfect rate of surviving. Your baby being born at 38 weeks will be fine. Hope all the best for you.

Sorry that I won't be able to share the experience abt bub staying at the hospital after born as I went home with Thomas couple days after he was born as he was healthy and has no problems with anything, he was just way too big for me-am petite- mind you tho i had managed to put on some weight during my pregnancy from size 6-to 8.
Don't worry but, you are in good hands. Australia is one of the best in the world, my brother said so and he knows what he's talking about he's an Ob and I think so too as I had wonderfull time in hospital when I had Thomas!
But I do wish you all the best, Jess i'm sure you and bub will be fine! :)
