I've decided my baby needs a sleeping bag for winter, she moves around alot - no chance of keeping a blanket on. I have done a bit of research and the gro bag brand seems like the way to go BUT they are really $$. I found a living textiles one on ebay it look s ok too at alot less $$
Which ones are the best? i'd prefer a cotton one and pref not second hand:confused:
Oh I live in Brisbane - just getting cooler now.:)

ozzy had a growbag for 6 months (it was a gift) so i looked at them when the weather got cooler... and couldn't justify $70! I bought 2 from target - one is a cookiemonster outfit with a hood and one a regular baby sleep bag in nice furry material and it cost me $30 all up. he's perfectly happy in them and if he outgrows them in 3 months i won't feel like i've wasted too much money ;)

I used the long sleeved, fleecy ones from Big W for DS and they were great  I'm going to buy a couple more for DD soon...the ones I had for DS wont fit her. The ones at Big W now are about $10 and they look like they'd be nice and cozy.

I was recommended the Gro-bag too but also found them a little expensive so I jumped on e-bay and found a cheaper brand (perfectly new) and only paid $16.00 (plus postage) - can you believe that bargain (how happy was I?)!!!!

I'll just go and check what it's called..... hang on..... It;s got Bright As A Star embroidered on the front. But it's exactly the same as a gro-bag.... I'd check out e-bay if I were you - much cheaper!

I have also bought the fleecy ones from Target and they do just as well!

Howdy!
We use the Big W, Target and Kmart ones, they are all great and are good on the wallet too! Do't forget to also check Myer (or Grace Bros depending on which state you are in!) as they have great cotton ones that aren't to exy too!

I am so glad that there are other Mums and Dads out there that can't keep blankets on their babies- We live in Nth Qld, and have had a really hot summer, so we haven't had to worry about blankets and such, but now that the cooler months are just around the corner (I note they're cooler, not cold, :) ), I have been thinking about a baby sleeping bag too. Last year we had an adorable Classic Pooh Bear one, that DD grew out of before we got too much use out of it. It was just a Target one also, polar fleece lined with cotton knit. I would love one similar again this year if I can manage to find one up here!!! I also priced the Grobag brand and a couple of others at a baby store and almost died at the price!!!

Just a query, does anybody still put sheets and blankets on the cot if their baby moves out from under them all the time?

I use the Big W/Target/Best & Less fleecy ones too, and find they're great....I too, just can't justify spending that much money on a Grobag they'll wear for only a few months...

Ondine - i only put a flannelette fitted sheet on the cot in the cooler weather. Why bother if they don't sleep under them?

missolive - I get me MIL (who knits/crochets) to make up some scratch mitten type gloves (just bigger), with ties at the wrists, and bub wears them in winter! Mac (who is nearly 3), wears gloves still! Maybe see if you can find someone who can knit you up some!

Mmmm I guess I could get my mum to knit something. But its going to open up the whole "you should learn to knit" discussion and "I used to make all your clothes when you were a baby etc etc"!!:ecomcity:

I too used a sleeping bag last winter, from Best and Less, for around $20,I also can't justify paying $80 for a sleeping bag.
Now that DD is walking, for this winter I bought a fleecy sleep suit with arms and legs so she won't trip when she stands up in the cot.

Miss Olive,my little one gets cold hands too,so I sewed a pair of fleecy socks onto the sleeping bag,to keep her little hands warm...looks quite funny, but hey it works!!

Sooo funny....

Yes I have sheets and blankets on the cot but thinking I need a sleeping bag too, in which case will probably just use a light blanket as well as it is only when bubs wakes that he moves up and out of the covers.

I just bought a winnie pooh one on ebay which I am looking forward to receiving.

Whats with the sleeping bags which are fleesy but have no long sleeves

i have read this thread with interest (and laughter - esp the comment in response to the idea of knitting mittens!), have my 6mo in her fleecy sleeping bag and yes, her hands get cold... but also WET because she must be sucking on her hands in the night! So I love the sew on some socks idea, but wondering if anyone had any ideas (besides wrapping her arms down) on avoiding the wet?!!!
:)
