My DD1 is going to turn four next month,

she does to day care tuesdays and thursdays,

and has a swimming lesson every week, which she loves,

I was starting to ask her just before if she wanted to do some dancing or another activity, and suggested maybe ballet, or gymnastics,

all she said back was, yeah that one sounds good, as long as it is exersise.

My question is, what age did you put your kids into other things like sport or dancing, and how did you pick what it was??

Hi,

All my girls started swimming at about 3yrs.

With other activities we decided on gymnastics mainly because it was the cheaper option. (Youth Club) It's also recreational so there is no pressure just gentle encouragement.

DD1 started gymnastics at 5yrs and then added cheerleading when she was 8yrs.

Her sisters started gymnastics at 3yrs and will also do cheerleading at 5yrs as they will be there with me anyway.

With my DD's they both started swimming lessons at 6 months and have continued to do them, but with DD1, when she turned 4 I started her in other activities. The way I did it was, I did one thing per school term (even though she wasn't at school) that's how I found they ran them. So each school term I changed, I did ballet one term, gymnastics the next, music the next and then soccer for the final one. At the end of the year I asked her which one she preferred and then when she started school she continued on with gymnastics permanently. I found that gave her a broad range of activities to experience and IMO a school term is long enough for her to figure out if she likes it or not.
HTH and good luck.:)
