Hello all,

Im Teresa and new to this site. I am mum to Thomas, 17 months old and was wondering if there were any mums in the Bulimba area of brisbane to chat with.
We have just had a visas approved and plan a move over, hopefully arriving beginning of October!
We are very very excited but also a little scared as we will know no one or the area! lol. I am hoping there are a few playgroups and nurseries local for thomas, maybe if anyone could recommend one or some that would be fantastic.

Looking forward to meeting people and making new friends, this is all a little daunting for us!

Welcome and congrats on choosing a great suburb! Bulimba is lovely, lots of cafes, parks and close to the water and the city. You'll find lots of mummies and kids in the area and most are happy to form groups and include you. By the way, there is a park on Oxford St, Bulimba (the main cafe strip) and I've heard many British accents there so I think you'll be in good company. I have a Thomas too (23 months) and another due in about a month so I'd be happy to catch up in due course. Can't help with nurseries as I'm an at home Mum but maybe others can.
Good luck with the move and rest assured you'll be moving to a lovely part of Brisbane.

Hi upsydaisy - welcome!!

I'm not from Brisbane so I can't help you much there but we are about to move from Melbourne to the UK! I appreciate your apprehension and wanting to know what everything is like where you will be living. I'm exactly the same.

All the best for you move - Bub Hub will be a wonderful place to gather information!!

Bulimba is a lovely place I am so jealous I would love to live there. I am in the suburb over, like vicimelda said you will find heaps of ladies who will be friendly in the parks and cafes around there but happy to catch up once I am finally on Mat leave or even before

I know what its like to move countries and not know anyone even though I only moved across the ditch.

Good luck with the move!

It seems we have chosen well, Bulimba sounds very nice. We only chose it because we were told on another website there was a flat available there for the dates we wanted.... fantastic. We are looking forward even more to arriving now!! Cant wait in fact. Everybody is so lovely, thank you.
Congratulations on the soon to be new bub arrivals!
Thank you vicimelda, megaminz and TKK, I would love to catch up with you all again, you have already made me feel welcome, it means a lot actually knowing there are nice people out there!

We was moving to Bulimba!

Now we have been told by the owners of the flat we were going to rent that they got there dates wrong and the flat is not actually available until december!!! Agh

We have to get our thinking caps on again and start to look for somewhere else to rent short term so we have somewhere to live when we arrive!!!

Bummer! Not sure where you are looking to find a place but perhaps you can check out realestate dot com dot au and find some local agents and then register with them (and let them know that you are coming from the UK). Sorry, you prob know all this already (but no harm in saying just in case you don't!). Good luck!

Hope I'm allowed to say that website. Mods - please remove if I'm not and accept my apologies!

Yes it is a bummer lol. I just started to think how easy things were falling into place at the mo!!!
Now we are back to searching.
My mum has suggested places like hamilton, Morningside, Kangaroo Point on short term basis until we get to know areas and decide where we want to be.
We will need to be easy travel distance to the valley where my hubby will be working and somewhere walking distance to shops, parks and bits as I will not be driving.

Thank you, I will take a look and see what they can do and if they can help us.
Very grateful for that x :)

Anywhere on trainline is good for the valley, can train it into brunswick street.

Bulimba, morningside, ashgrove, kangaroo point... all lovely places. Not all the most affordable anymore though

If you go slightly north it's lovely too!

I vote go north and go train too!

I'm 5ks north from the city in Alderley/Newmarket/Windsor and it takes me 10 minutes to the Valley on a train. Its much more affordable this side of town and we have a good shopping complex (for groceries/coffee/post office etc) just down the road.

Just another couple of suburb names to throw in the mix :D

Far out it must be overwhelming to do all this from the other side of the world... Well done to you!

If you ever want an info on any suburb just PM me and I can tell you whats around (like parks, transport, shops and the general vibe!).

And of course PM when you get here and I can take you to my secret stash of Vietnamese and Tiawanese restaurants in the valley :p

I agree Windsor is great very close to the valley you could even walk it. Have lived in both Bulimba and Windsor. Bulimba is a lovely place but it's sort of annoying that it's close but not close because it's sort of in it's own pocket. I much prefered living in Windsor because of it's handiness. Have moved further out to Chermside now though just so it's a bit quieter though.

Thanks both, Its good getting some advice on these areas. I would like somewhere thats nice but also not too costly either as will be on a budget, more so to start with until we start to settle and know whats what...

It is very overwhelming TKK yes, but it is what we have wanted for such a long time....
We love australia so much and have so much respect for the country and people in it!
We have been several times over the years visiting my mum who lived in Perth for 4 years and is now in Adelaide.

I am looking forward to meeting up with you!!! You have been very kind, you all have! and will happily take you up on that offer TKK! I will be in touch as soon as we get there and no doubt sooner too. THANK YOU! X
Will be checking these places out now to see whats available.
