Just thought i would start a poll to find out if people drink whilst bf & how often.
This is just an enquiry, so no need to lecture anyone ok?
I very rarely drink - breastfeeding or not.
I was coerced into having a Vodka Cruiser last Friday night and I was out like a light 30 mins afterwards!
I think I could count on one hand the amount of times I've had a drink in the last 2 years. But while breastfeeding, its always been right after the last feed of the day, to give it plenty of time to leave the system before the morning feed.

I also rarely drink, max 3 times a year, infact i've never been drunk   But just thought i'd ask as i'm constantly offered alcohol even though they know i'm bfeeding :shame:
I have drunk and will drink while breast feeding and pregnancy as I enjoy a small glass of wine with dinner 2, mabey 3 times a week. I don't smoke and eat a healthy well balanced diet.
When not pregnant or breastfeeding I enjoy a glass or two of wine most nights. When pregnant I have a small glass of wine every few weeks, if that. While breastfeeding I only drink once baby is into a routine of sleeping for several hours at night, then I have one after they are in bed - but again it is a small one, and not every night - maybe twice a week. Once they are onto just one or two feeds a day and sleeping through then I sometimes have a couple of glasses at night. Having been breastfeeding or pregnant for most of the last four years my alcohol consumption has dramatically reduced and our wine collection has increased!
Im Not really a drinker,
with ds1 whilst i BF i had the occassional drink, making sure it was after the last feed of the day, and i wouldnt feed him again for a good few hours

I didn't drink while breastfeeding Vallerie. And I won't drink while breastfeeding Chomper.
My mum loves to tell this "funny" story about how she got quite drunk (apparently unintentionally) during the time she was breastfeeding me. The story ends with "and baby slept for 14 hours that night!!" *raucous laughter*.
I"m not afraid to have a shandy ... or a 1/2 glass of wine...
I do tend to have it AFTER I have fed him - so that there is more time for my body to breakdown the alcohol before the next feed...
but with the amount of grog that I drink it isn't really an issue  I"ve always been a cadbury girl (glass and a half =  ) so it isn't really an issue!!
xx
Another cadbury girl here!! I would have a small glass of wine with dinner out or on a social occasion, usually after DD has had her last bf and gone to bed. I've never been a big drinker, so for me its not a big issue.

Since finding out I was pregnant with ds I have had 2 shandys with about a sip of beer in them - this was after ds dropped night feeds, so I had it after his last feed of the night. During pregnancy - NO WAY!! I just can't bing myself to take the risk - besides alcohol isn't really high on my list of priorities anyway! i will however, be treating myself to huge platter of soft cheeses, pate and salami once this bub arrives!!

On the weekends (Friday and Saturday nights), I have a couple of drinks drinks at home with hubby, after bub is in bed. He goes to bed at 6.30/7pm and doesn't wake up till the morning these days, so the alcohol has left my system by then anyway.
My mum drank whilst breastfeeding me... (not that I condone the amount she drank!)... and I was unaffected... actually, I was a straight A student throughout school :D The only damage my mums drinking caused me was emotional, from having to live with her (and his) addiction!
...not to say that drinking excessively whilst breatsfeeding couldn't possibly affect a growing bub... just wanted to give an example of alcohol not affecting the child.
Don't know why... just felt like it.:o

Thought I should also mention that I didn't touch alcohol whilst pregnant or when bub was tiny... its only since he has been older and sleeping longer stretches at night!
...and I'm not advocating drinking whilst breastfeeding either:D

I didnt drink while pg or breastfeeding either. Personal choice. Besides, I didnt (and dont!) feel like alcohol anyway.
I can never stomach alcohol very well during pregnancy (just tastes vile) and for about the first few months after giving birth, but in the past I have taken to having a glass of red wine at night, which I call my 'prozac'....It hasnt effected any of my boys, and if anything, the fact that they have a de-stressed mama has had a calming effect on them....(or maybe they have been the same but I've been to chilled out to really care?) I would always have my glass of wine after the 7pm night feed though, and wouldnt feed again till about 10.30-11pm....
I drank a bottle of stout a night a few weeks ago to stop some HUGE braxton hicks I was getting, and it worked a treat, but honestly, by the 3rd night I could only manage about half the bottle, I just didnt like the taste....so I guess I am lucky that alcohol isnt an issue with me!
But to be honest, red wine has health benefits anyway, when taken in small amounts.....;) millions of French women can't be all wrong.....;)
I didn't drink at all when pregnant or for the first 6 months after bub was born, but now that she is older and feeding off me less, i have a few bourbons on the weekend with my partner.
If i know i am going to be drinking i always express milk for her and put it in the fridge just in case.
I will have a small drink on the odd occasion, but only after DD has gone to bed.

Now that DD is in more of an established routine I often have a wine/beer after her last feed for the night. I also had the odd wine in my last trimester:)

I had 1 drink while bf DD1. It was my birthday and we went out for dinner. DD ws sleeping around 10 hours a night and she had had her last feed and I had a vodka lime and lemonade when we got home!!
Other than that I have not had a drink while bf or while I was knowingly pg.
I have actually BF at a wine tasting, but always keeping in mind the quantity. I hardly ever had big nights - was the designated driver most of the time so the occasional glass or two here and there was about it.
Cheers
I also have drunk alcohol whilst pg and breastfeeding. I would have a glass of wine with dinner maybe twice a week. I'm sure i will probably do the same with this bub. Although i am feeling far too sick to be thinking about alcohol at the moment.:barf:
i found out i was preg like a week before my 21st:crying: but i still had a few drinks but it all ended well cozz i didnt wake up with a hangover, and i remember the whole night-yay!!i did have the odd glass of wine while preg, someone told me red wine was better so i drunk that instead.i was 5 days overdue with bub,the sat nite i had a couple of wines then went into labour!!
i drink now,and i breastfeed,but not regualry-maybe once a week and have a few wines,usually at night.
i remeber asking the antenatal teacher bout drinking while bf,she said NO,its not worth it.
i was like "oh man,i havent got drunk in 9 months and then i have to wait even longer!!"
it sucked,i used to be a very heavy drinker but these days with a bub its out of the question!!sometimes i wake up with a hangover after a couple of wines!!i dont even get drunk and still have a hangover, how fair is that?!?

I ADORE wine and miss it very much. While pregnant I didn't drink anything at all, (when I found out anyway  ) but now I will have one or two drinks, oh I don't know, perhaps about once per month???
Problem is, after just one glass I am gone  .
