NT Scan today

Hi everyone,

I've got my NT scan this arvo, I'm very excited to see my little bubba but also scared about the results. Fingers crossed everything is OK.:fingerscrossed:

My question is.....how do I prepare for this scan, I can't see it written anywhere on my paperwork. I mean how long before the scan do I not go to the toilet and how much water do I drink??

I've forgotten from my first one......

Hey chic,

I've always been told about a litre of water and no peeing an hr before hand. It has worked fine for me at every scan. :( Terribly uncomfortable!!!

I have a scan this arvo too!!! I was told to drink 3 glasses of water after peeing an hour before hand, I'm 14 weeks pregnant. :)

Ohhhhhhhhhh I have mine today at 12pm... I was told to drink a litre of water between 10 & 11am & hold it until 12. Good luck everyone.. Can't wait to see my little bubba.. I'm sure we'll all be fine..
My concern is that I think I should have had the blood tests that are used with the scan to determine the percentages at 10weeks.. Is that right?? My Dr didnt make it very clear & I thought I just needed the scan & bloods done at the same time. Can anyone clear this up for me?? I hope I havent left it too late for the blood tests???

I was told when I turned up for my 12wk scan that I was supposed to have had my Bloods done already!!! My Doc never told me either. It maybe different where you are. They use the bloods to compare the Ultrasound results to for final result.

They actually combine the results to give the clearest possible picture. Its actually best to do the blood tests in week 10 and the scan between 11weeks 3 days and 13 weeks 6 days....

Mine is just cos I haven't had one yet and my Mum is a worrywart lol so the GP said I wasn't sure of my dates :p

It's gonna be fun holding in all this water, I better go drink mine now! :(:hissy:

:yes: thats right, they use the blood test results from 10wks and the 12wk ultrasound together to assess your DS risk. If you don't have the tests done @ those times the accuracy decreases.

I had my 12wk scan @ 12wks and a few days, she told me if I had come in a few days later it would of been too late.

I really wish doctors would get their s**t together cause the last thing an expectant mum needs to worry about is when to have tests and if you have missed booking them :banghead:

I had bloods at 10 weeks and scan at 12 weeks too. I expect the sonographer will be able to tell you if it's too late for the bloods.

Well my scan went really well, all good so far.

My little jelly bean is the cutest thing ever :yes:

Went for blood test yesterday at 11 weeks but stupid Dr only gave me 1 referral for the NT scan and bloods but they are at two different places, so I couldn't get the blood test done as the referral was made out for the radiologists so now I have to go back to the Dr who charges $60 a visit to get another referral, however the lady did say the blood test can be done after the ultrasound and they can do it upto 13.4 weeks.
Don't Dr's know this stuff? I've spent so much on Dr visits lately, thought going public was going to be cheaper!
Having NT scan next Thursday, can't wait haven't had any scans yet and lost a baby at this stage at xmas last year so am very nervous that this one is going to be ok...:fingerscrossed:
