I have never had a premmie baby but I have an idea for something I want to do. What I need to know is what things would you have liked to have at hospital when your premmie baby was first born, either as something you could take home with you while they stayed in hospital so you could have something of them at home or so you felt like they had something to remind them of you when you left?
Also, anything that would have made it easier for you in those first few weeks that you hadn't thought of until later, such as a jourmal or camera, etc?

TIA!

A very soft clean small blanket would have been nice so that I could have slept with it for a couple of days and then put next to DS so he could smell me while I wasnt there.

I also would have liked it if someone had put a birth announcement in the paper for us as I felt like no one celebrated his birth.

Balloons saying congratulations your a mum etc, everyone sent flowers but no baloons etc

A small photo album was really good for me. My mum bought me one and the hospital printed out a couple of photos, then family printed some up for me. This helped me when I had to go back to my room by myself and express during the night as seeing your baby helps stimulate the milk. As she improved I could also see this in the timeline of the photos and helped keep me thinking positive.

Also I would have liked something like the soft blanket to leave my scent with her, but I never read about it til after we were home, I wish one of the nurses had suggested it.

definatly a little blanket, to keep with bub, I did end up doing that, but only a week before we got to bring her home,

it would've been nice to have a camera on hand, I should've brought a disposable and left it in her basket of things, so then I could've snaped pics when ever, I forgot to bring in my camera a couple of times, which I regret, cause I dont' really have many pics of her in hosp

Thanks for your responses......

When I had the idea, these are the things I came up with. Let me know what you think.....

disposable camera
hand foot moulds/ink
name tag for humidicrib
container for lock of hair
brochure with information, list of medical abbrev. and support numbers
journal and pen
hand sanitiser
moisturiser
premmie sized booties/beanie/gown/vest
dummy?
small blanket
toy (for size comparison in photos)

I know some premmies aren't stable enough for the hand/footprints straight away, and some may not be able to wear the clothes, but it's just a rough list at this point in time.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
