I am having an appt on monday with one of Drs to talk induction, this isnt what i want to do, hoping to get things started before then, but i am just wondering what is the least medical way of inducing labour?
I was thinking that it would be the strech and sweep, is there other ways that are less invasive and require less intervention afterwards?
You could try some natural methods - nipple stimulation and lots of BDing with your DP.

nipple stimulation (if you've got a pump you can use that)
some Rumpy Pumpy
SnS (stretch and sweep)
spicy foods
pineapple (only if you eat a whole one or more lol)
walking with one leg in the gutter and one on the side of the road (hope that makes sence, for some reason this can get some over due woman going)
all the natrual things, will only work if your body is ready, if your body is not ready then medical inductions are to be done, e.g the gel, drip, waters being broken, even then its not gauranteed that you'll go into labour straight away
good luck with everything, I hope labour happens for you before monday

Ive heard just recently that S&S dont really work...sorry.
My cousin with both of her last 2 bubs went on a really long walk and went in to labour that night both times.
Have you tried evening primrose oil capsules inserted into the vagina as far up as they can go. That is meant to soften your cervix.
As pp's have said plenty of sex (yeah I know who really feels like it when you feel like a whale)
I know that many will say no dont do it but it worked for my sister and I but we took a dose of castor oil with orange juice and went into labour spontaneously that night. It didnt even make me get the runs.
Nipple stimulation can also be helpful.
You could see an accupuncturist.
You know you can refuse the induction up to a cetain point and tell them that you are happy to be monitored with routine ctg's.
One other thing you could try is to sit in a nice relaxing bath with some candles going and some safe essential oils and talk to your bubba and let them know you are ready for them to come earthside.
Ok that is all I can think of. Goodluck to you and cant wait to hear of your bubs entry to the world.

I think a stretch and sweep would be good, although bare in mind your cervix needs to be favourable if you expect anything to happen. You can help ripen your cervix by getting some evening primrose oil capsules, prick a hole or two in 2-3 and squeeze the oil onto your fingers and gently apply it to your cervix
Other things that can help apparently can be swinging on a swing, nice deep swings can help bubs head to put pressure on the cervix to start dialating and even break the bag of waters. Worked for me lol with dd3... 5 hrs later my waters burst.
Walking up a big steep hill put my aunt in labour, and scrubbing the floors on her hands and knees got her second labour going  BUGGER THAT THOUGH :p
Sex sex and more sex Libby!
In terms of sex to induce labour - Its actually not intercourse itself that helps to moves things along. It is orgasm. Orgasm contracts the uterus and releases the same hormone as nipple stimulation does, except with more "intensity".
And sperm contains prostaglandin (although low levels) a hormone that assists in bringing on labour if your cervix is ready. If you are induced, a prostaglandin gel is often placed on the cervix to ripen it.

Thanks for that girls.
Beth- the floors are not getting scrubbed.
I am thinking i might have to attack DF tonight.
I think i am going to have an internal tomorrow and hopefully the doc will tell me that my cervix is favourable.
I am going to ask what he thinks of a S&S, i am thinking if i need medical intervention that this might be the way to go.
I would suggest acupuncture. It's a series of 3 treatments, and there's a 90% success rate that it helps to induce labour!!
I was going to give it a go, but my little DD decided she would arrive herself on the day that I was booked in to start

Well it looks like we are both going to benefit from the attack then isnt it. :D
Hopefully i wont need to get any medical intervention, but i am not sure how much more of the being pregnant thing i can take.

Bare in mind that you are not clinically "overdue" until past 42 weeks, and even then, it is assuming the dates are correct. There is a margin of error even with Ultrasound scan dates. The bottom line is, when your body and baby are ready, you will go into labour. The natural techniques will only work if labour is imminent, in which case you would go into labour anyway. There are also tests you can insist on beyond 42 weeks to check the condition of the baby, the placenta and amniotic fluid if you are reluctant about artificial induction. All the best :)
