I would like some advise if anyone has had a similar situation to mine. Up until yesterday I was 5 weeks pregnant with no problems. Yesterday I started to bleed red blood for around 30 mins (not very much at all but more than just spotting) a few hours later I began to get cramps but by then there was no bleeding only a slight brownish discharge. I called health direct last night who advised me to see an after hours. The GP told examined me, said I was 1cm dilated and recommended I get an ultrasound today. I spent six and a half hours at emergency today (as I don't have a GP) and had a blood test. The ultrasounds were not available today so I need to wait until Monday. The doctor basically diagnosed a inevitable miscarriage due to the cervix being open, but I have not bled at all today (only more slight brownish discharge) and I am confused. Does anyone have a similar story or know of a doctor mistaking an open cervix etc? Any assistance would be appreciated
sorry to hear your going through this :hugs:
i'm a bleeder in pregnancy, i'll spot (sometimes more than spotting) during the first trimester, and I bleed heavily in the second trimester, all times the doc's at the emergency department have told me i'm miscarrying, some of them told me my cervix was open, others told me my cervix was closed
if your cervix is open, it could mean miscarrage, although if this is not your first baby, some women never have a completely closed cervix with second or thrid pregnancies, so this could be your case
if you have a scan on monday and there is no heartbeat, don't be allarmed, as it might be too early for a heart beat to be picked up, as the heartbeat usually starts at around 6wks gest, and even then, the scan might not pick it up unless its a internal one, if no heartbeat has been picked up, and your either stoped bleeding, or only spotting still, it might pay to wait another week and have another scan, to check viability, I know some people that have bled at 5wks, went to have a scan, told bubs is not viable cause no heart beat, were told to have a d&c, they refused and went back for a scan a week later, and there was a heart beat
hopefully that will be the same for you
will be keeping my fingers crossed for you :fingerscrossed:

I was told there was no heartbeat after fluid and blood loss. I waited another few days and went for another scan and they found a heartbeat.
I knida just knew everything was okay though whilst I was waiting for that second scan.
What does your gut feeling tell you?? If you feel all is okay then go with that and wait a few more days for the scan.
Good luck, I really hope its a case of mistaken diagnosis from your GP and all is well with your baby.

How did they know your cervix was open? Did they check internally or via a scan? My cervix was open at 8 weeks pg according to my own "examination", but had a scan to confirm this and the cervix was closed. Evidently there are several layers to your cervix...it may feel open at the bottom, but can be tightly closed at the top. Its when the cervix is open at the top that you should worry. You wont know if its open at the top without the scan, so being that you havent had any more bleeding, I would say it could be a good sign things will be ok. :) Keep us posted on the results of the scan!

There have been many times when a doctor has told women that they were losing the baby, that there was no heart beat, etc. They displayed all the signs of miscarriage (bleeding, cramps & open cervix) but their bodies held on and some of them have carried baby to full term. So I wouldn't rule the possibility out.! :)
I had bleeding and cramping at 10 weeks, thought I was losing the baby but he stuck in! Have the scan and see how they go with that.

Hi Nell78,
I had a miscarriage last year in October. It started off with light bleeding over a few days. My GP immediately tested my HCG levels through a blood test. then he wanted me back in a week to test them again to see if they were doubling. Unfortunately for me they weren't. BUT he did tell me he has seen quite a few cases where the HCG levels kept increasing while women bleed and their pregnancy's were fine. If you google 'decidual bleeding' it will explain why some women bleed during pregnancy.
I hope you are going well! :hugs:

I miscarried in april, I never had heavy bleeding just brown discharge and I never had cramps. But unless you continue to loose more and more blood I would still ask for them to do more bloods in 2days.
Good luck :hugs:

How did u go with the ultra sound? Did they pick up a heart beat? I'm 5 weeks pregnant and bleeding (period type bleeding)I did one ultra sound today and they could not find a heart beat. but my HCG levels have not risen nor fallan so I have to do another blood test in few days. I hope everything is ok with u!
