Baby Bonus increase?

Hi all - on the weekend, my sis said the baby bonus was going up to $5000 in july - can anyone confirm this?
This would really help us when im on maternity leave. And would probably ease DF concerns too.

Thats what i said to her, no, its $4000 - but she is convinced its $5000 - she isnt a dope either so i dont know now - maybe i should just try find it on nsw govt site?

Yeah, i heard $4000 too....i think it goes up to $5000 in 2008 but i'm not sure about that.

There was a lot of confusion over this last year...a lot of people thought it would go up to $4000 on 1st July 2005, thank god it didn't as ds was born on 30th June and we could have REALLY done with the money lol.

I rung Centrelink just after I gave birth to Jack in Jan cause I got told it went up on 1st of Jan.

And the man said that it goes up to $4000 in July this year and up to $5000 in July 2008.

when i was researching how long i could be on maternity leave for, the person i see at centre link gave me a pamphlet which says that each financial year (july) the bonus goes up by 1,000 right up untill its 10,000. so this july it will be 4,000. cant wat till the year 2012! lol

DJF - I have a friend convinced she got $5000 with her last bub, born in the $3000 bracket, and keeps on telling me how I'll get $6000. I just smile and nod. :p

I have called centerlink and they have said that as of July THIS year it will increse to $4000.... and then it will go up to $5000 as of July 2008

I keep getting told the same thing about it going up to $5000, by, you know, the "experts". The best I can find out from the tax office is that it is going up to something like $4119 or some odd figure like that, on 1 July this year.
Glad my little one is due August, or at the earliest mid-July! :smiliedance:

Yes there was another thread like this somewhere else.

The Maternity Payment will be going from the current amount of $3,166.00 to $4000 this new financial year the payment is then indexed the following March and September which is why it changes to an odd amount throughout the year.

How long after bub was born did you put your claim in for the baby bonus? If it was a few weeks after the birth then the extra you got would have been back payments of parenting payments, etc...

Like everyone else has said, it goes up to $4000 on July 1 2006, then $5000 on July 1 2008. I can't understand why this issue comes up so often when it is all clearly stated on the centrelink website :banghead: Sure centrelink are annoying and never give the same answer twice...

How much Maternity Payment do I get?

Maternity Payment is indexed in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March and September each year.

This payment rate is effective from 20 March 2006 and is only paid for babies born or adopted on or after 1 July 2004. Maternity Payment is paid as a non-taxable lump sum payment. Payment is made into a bank or credit union account and not through the tax system.

* This payment is not subject to an income test.
* This payment is not subject to an assets test.

Status Lump Sum Payment Amount
Per child $3166.00

Note: For multiple births, maternity payment is paid for each child. For example, twins attract two payments of Maternity Payment ($6332).

As announced in the May 2004 Budget Maternity Payment will increase:

* from 1 July 2006 the Maternity Payment will be increased to $4000
* from 1 July 2008 the Maternity Payment will be increased to $5000.

i was reading the hearld sun a few days ago and there is rumours of a increase in FTB payments maybe this extra thousand is what that is? its spose to be coming in with the new budget so in july

Ok those of us due before July 1st this year get $3199. Those who give birth after July 1st will get around $4,500. Just remember though that there is an election before 2008 so anything can happen to the payments by then.
