View Full Version : Have you tried this?

OK I'm not sure really where this question belongs. Its half way between no-cry and controlled crying.

My 11 month old DD still wakes during the night, normally only once if nothing is wrong, multiple times if she is sick, cold etc.

We pick her up and give her a bottle (which she drinks most of) then put her back in the cot. Sometimes she doesn't want to be away from us and cries. DH brings her back to our bed, where she squirms around then falls asleep.

I cant keep getting up to her and letting her sleep in our bed as I am expecting another bub soon and it will be a case of 4 in the bed.

Anyway my grand plan is put her back in her own cot then lie down on the floor and pretend to sleep. If she cries I shush her and stay there until she has fallen asleep. Last night it took two goes of 20 minutes each.

Has anyone else tried this? Did it work in the long term? (ie did your small person eventually self settle?) If so how long did it take?
Does anyone have any better ideas?

My suggestion is to put her on a mattress on the floor, and when she wakes up for her bottle get hubby to give it to her and lay down with her and go back to sleep. He can come back to your bed if he wakes up before she does! Worked for us.

just a question does she normally put herself to sleep??

What we did with our 10 month old son when he was 4 months old.. he was sleeping through the night and then out of no where he started waking in the middle of the night for a feed and after about a week of this i thought what is the point in that extra feed considering previously he had been sleeping through so i let him cry only for about 10 mins then i would go and settle him and after that he fell back asleep.. and we only had to do that for 2 nights and he didnt wake up during the night again unless he was sick...

Thanks Xaviersmummy,

I would love for this to be an option, however I live in a flat, and am having a dispute over noisey babies/toddlers with a neighbour. I will most likely give this a shot when we move, (not long now! anyone want to buy a delux flat with fabbo babies room in Sydney??? lol)

Thanks for the idea and support anyhoo!

i was having similar problems and a friend showed me how to face them away from you and pat in the cot until they fall asleep, but dont give in. baby stays in the cot between 7.30 and 7 except for feeds she assures me that eventually her baby self settled, i am told about 2 weeks. but i suppose that depends on the baby.

all the best.
