My daughter is six months old and just trialling solids at the moment, she takes formula from a bottle for her feeds.
my ? is:- when do I stop sterilsing her teats and bottles
2nd ? is:- does all water she drinks (including any I use to thin down her solids) still need to be cooled boiled water?
should I be trialling a cup too by this stage?
thanks girls
We stopped when both our boys started crawling and putting other things in their mouths. Nat was about 7 months and PJ was around 6.5 months.
To be honest I can't remember when we stopped boiling water, but I'm guessing it was probably around the same time.
If she looks interested in a cup give it a go! Never hurts to try!!
Best of luck

Yeah, when Cj started sucking & chewing on everything I stopped sterilising bottles. He was about 7 months I thiink. I didn't see the point anymore. I still boiled water for a while longer though. I think he was prolly closer to 1 when I stopped boiling.

I stopped sterilising at 7mths too, not the 12mths that the child health nurse told me! Such a relief really and alot less mucking around. I just wash the bottles in the water with detergent and rinse under the tap. I am still boiling bubs water but it's more out of habit than necessary.

My DD is 6 1/2 months and has been on solids for about 3 weeks. I don't sterilise (never did, just washed in hot soapy water and rinsed well - cos at the hosp I was told that sterilising isn't really done anymore). Anyhow DD has her water cup at every feed and yeah I use cooled boild water - I just have a big jug of it ready to go:)

I stopped sterilising for DD1 at 12 months (new mum thing), and for DD2 it was 6 months.
I still use boiled water and will til 12 months. I have a whole jug full left from when i have my morning cuppa, so its no biggy for me....
As for the cup, it can't hurt to try! If she takes it then well done!
I think "they" say you can stop sterilising when bubs start to crawl and put everything in their mouth. However, I still sterilise bottles (new mum thing, plus I make his bottles up with formula the night before so they have to sit for sometime.)
I also think "they" say you should boil the water until bubs are 12 months old and start using a cup or sipper cup at 6 months. With the boiled water thing, my DS will grab and suck on the face washer in the bath or when I am cleaning him up after food and that is not boiled water... I suppose it is not a whole cup full at a time.
