I'm not sure where to put this, its not really a 'teething' issue, so her goes...feel free to move it...:)

I was just reading Practical Parenting mag, and in the tips section, a lady was telling how when she was little and lost a tooth, their mum would get them to put it in a glass of water as usual, and she would sprinkle baby powder/cornflour based etc, on the bedside table.

In the night she'd come in and replace the tooth with money, and sprinkle glitter around, and use a wet finger to make 'fairy footprints' in the powder/glitter! I thought this was such a magical idea! I would have just done the glass and money thing, but this makes it so much more special! How cute!

That's so cute!

It actually reminds me of a story (the glass of water) from when I was little. My best friend Scott had lost a tooth and had it in a cup of water in his room. Anyway, my sister barges in the room at the ripe old age of 3 and grabs the cup of water and downs the whole lot, tooth and all!! the look of horror on Scott's face was priceless!

But thanks for the great idea! I think I might just have to do it, but use a jar with a lid instead of a cup incase my sister comes over and gets thirsty again! :)

What a wonderful idea

I also heard another idea that I thought was cute. A mother used to keep an empty container in her bag - but it wasn't empty, it was full of magic mummy love, and when her little ones hurt themselves, she would get out the container and scoop up some of the magic mummy love and rub it onto their sore elbow or whatever. Then when she had to leave the kids with anyone she would leave her special container so they would always have access to magic mummy healing even when she wasn't there.

Our tooth fairy leaves treasures as well as money. Little gemstones and crystals which my children collect in their treasure bags. They decided that the tooth fairy makes these stones from their teeth.

Another cute one-when seeing one of our children off -either school or an outing etc..-we always blow each other kisses and put them in our pockets for later. It started when DS#1 was smaller and ever the seperation anxietist (word?) I would give him a blow kiss to put in his pocket and if he got sad or a bit scared later on he could pull it out and use it! I actually think I got the idea from a movie once but have no idea which one it was.:)

awwwww! I love all these ideas and will be stealing them for myself.

I always used to leave my teeth under my pillow and to this day I wonder how Mum got under there and replaced it with money without waking me. Clever woman she was!

Wonderful ideas!!!
My cousin is a primary school teacher (Prep) and a couple of years ago the children got together and were comparing how much money each got from tooth fairy. One of the little girls was getting $20 a tooth!!!
A couple of weeks later my cousin noticed that a 'black market tooth exchange' had been established in the class. When she asked why they were giving their teeth to another child they replied,
"Well Danielle's tooth fairy gives more money than ours does!"...bless 'em!
