Hi,
I visited Ipswich this morning to see DS#1 paediatrician. After this, I decided to go to Ipswich Mall. They have 2 parent rooms there so I thought I would go and heat up DS#2 bottle before settling down for morning tea. We went to 1 room and there was no microwave. Followed the directions on the sign for the other room and thought I would find one there as it is near Centre Management. No, this one does not have one either.
My question is this:
Is it compulsory for Parents Rooms to have baby bottle/food warming facilities or am I just expecting too much? I would love to hear from others who have had this problem. If it is compulsory, I will be sending an email to Ipswich Centre Management.
Thank you all in advance.

Unfortunately it is not compulsary to even have a parents room!
It is annoying though isn't it. The local childrens hospital here refuses to have a microwave and if you want to heat a bottle they supply you with a bucket to put hot tap water in, ridiculous if you ask me!:banghead:

Our Westfields' mothers room don't have them iether but I always took my DS's bottles down to the food hall and one of the sandwich shops there would heat it up for me, so that worked out OK as it was on the same level as the mothers rooms.

The mothers room in Chatswood Chase (Sydney) has a microwave, but it also has a sign warning parents of the dangers of heating babys' bottles in the microwave, (re burns to mouth and throat etc).
So perhaps some centres don't provide one for OHS/insurance/litigation reasons.

It's funny because some shops won't give you hot water to heat with either because of the risk of you spilling it and burning you and your baby and sueing them
I am a Centre Manager at two Centre's - one in Brisbane and one in Logan. Like some of the other ladies said, it isn't compulsory to have a microwave or even a parents room.
You will find that most parents rooms that don't have microwaves are that way because someone has stolen them! I have worked in heaps of Centres and some have this problem and some don't - really depends where they are. You would be amazed at what people steal. I had one centre where the ash trays kept going missing - butt's and all! Generally OHS or public liability aren't the reason.
I would recommend talking to the CM or writing a letter - they do take notice.
I think some parents rooms don't have them for saftey reasons.
Oscars's mum I have never been to a hospital that uses a microwave to heat bottles and again I think its the saftey issue
With DD I would carry a little thermos of hot water wich her bottle fit in so no matter where I was she could always have her milk. DS drank his milk at room temp, even better.

I don't even look for bottlewarmers/microwaves as I don't heat up my DDs bottle, just give it to her at room temperature. I use cooled boiled water though.
Just wanted to say that you don't *have* to heat it.

I wish that was the case with Aden first went on the bottle, but it didnt matter how hungry he was, he had to have it nice and warm!! Thank goodness Travis doesnt care and will have it at room temp.
mumoftwoboys2005: I would write a letter as cait suggested. It couldnt hurt. I have even known some places having both a microwave and a bottle wamer.
Our local Westfield (Central Coast NSW) has microwaves and bottlewarmers in their parents rooms. Its a really nice clean area. Thumps up to Westfield!

ok here goes im getting up on my soap box
i know it not complusery and i know they do get stolen but it would be nice if the centres could provide a microwave even if it is at centre mangement or a maned help desk so it cant be stolen
on another note is it wrong of me to use the parents room when i have shopping but i dont have dd with me?
:ecomcity: :ecomcity: :ecomcity:
My local shopping centre doesn't have a microwave in the parents room. So I went to see centre management to complain about it. They told me the reason why was because they'd had like 3 microwaves stolen in a month.
But they also told me if I needed my babies bottle heated up, I could bring it to centre management and they would let me use the microwave in there!

That was nice of them. Yummy-mummy, don't worry. You are not alone in using the parents rooms quickly whilst out shopping. I have done it a few times when I have a trolley load of groceries with me but not cherub. There is no way that I would leave it out in the aisle unattended.
I think it's very sad that society has come down to nicking microwaves from parents rooms. Having said that, it also gets my goat when there are people (i/e teenagers but not all the time) in there when I go in to feed DS#2. :shame:
Thank you very much to everyone who contributed their replies, it was greatly appreciated. It also means that someone actually reads what I write. :ecomcity:
I think from now on, I will take a little thermos with me. He is getting better though in that he will take it at room temperature, just not all the time. :smiliedance:

If there's no bottle warmers or microwaves about i usually just ask the nearest cafe if they can nuke it in the microwave. But at chermside they have both so usually i dont need to worry.but most cafe's are happy to heat them up even if you dont buy anything.

it does make one wonder though how does one steal a microwave without being noticed
The reason some places aren't keen to use microwaves is that there have been cases where bubs throats were scalded, and the parents have ended up suing the stores/restaurants.
Stupid, I know. Parental responsibility is up the creek at the moment (all this child obesity stuff being pushed onto schools etc), I'm only hoping we'll see a resurgence in parents actually taking responsibility for what is their job.
I used to work in hospitality and we weren't allowed to heat baby food or bottles in the microwave. We provided them with a jug of hot or boiling water.
