Hi there, we are thinking about getting our DS at bed when he turns 2. I'm not sure whether to get a toddler bed or go straight into a regular single bed. What are other peoples experiences?

We put DD1 straight into a single bed...

Well it was a slow progress over about 2 weeks. We left the cot up in the same room as the single bed and offered it each night, and eventually Got her into her big girl bed.

We spent a few nights sleeping on the floor next to her on a mettress as she wanted to hop out and play a fair bit.

But eventually she stopped.

Good luck

Single bed.. I think toddler beds were only deigned to make parents spend more money.

I bought Cobey's bed on ebay for $18, it's low to the ground and just normal. I did pretty much what 2sweetgirls did with cot-to-bed transition (actually I had to co-sleep to cot first because the monkey didn't understand the concept of staying in bed.)

I took the drop down side off DS's cot to begin with, about 2 weeks before his 2nd birthday. He wouldn't stay in bed though so I put the safety gate over is doorway because he would freak out if I shut the door (and he's tall enough to open it anyway!). The safety gate worked really well for us and we just started leaving it open occassionally and then took it off completely.

We are getting DS a single bed now. My experience is that toddler beds are the same size as a cot anyway (fit a cot mattress) so if bub's is getting too big for the cot, they're not gonna be in a toddler bed for long.

I agree with Seek - they were designed specifically to get parents to spend money.

I agree that going straight to a big single bed is the way to go. We got a bed guard and did the gradual transition from cot to single bed and took about 2 weeks in total. DD1 also helped pick her pillow, duvet and sheet/quilt sets so she was quite excited about going into a big girls bed (she was 2yo).
Good luck!!

we just gor DS a elmo toddler bed off ebay.
i dont like i though at all.its so small.

we wanted a single bed for him but though the elmo one might tempt him a bit more for a temporary thing.

the stupid bed has a 25kg limit though which is no god when he just wants to hug me to go to sleep ( another thing we are working on stopping before the next bub arrives)

save your money and go straight to a single bed instead
