hey every one! I am a first time mum due on 1st of January and i have been fortunate in that i have not experienced morning sickness, however, for the last week, i have had these unbelievable headaches! was wondering if anyone else had the same??
i had my first ob appt yesterday which all went very well (i had all my 1st trim scans/blood tests done with local GP) i mentioned the headaches to my ob who mentioned that it can be common at this stage with all the hormones flying around inside :o she suggested panadol as an option if it gets unbearable.
these headaches are so bad, that they get progressively worse as time goes on and the only thing that helps is lying down with no distractions because at that stage, even standing up causes a head pounding! if i do take a panadol, i have to take it at the onset of the headache, because it does not make a difference once the headache is in full swing......has anyone else experienced the same sort of thing??

Hi mjb and welcome to bubhub :)
I sometimes have mild headaches, not as strong as yours but It is apparently common like your ob said. All my pregnancy books say that you may be experiencing headaches. My friend who is due in December is also having shocking headaches. I really hope they settle down for you soon. Come and have a chat with us in the Jan thread :flowerz:

Hi there me too. i have had similar to you with the same thing that if i dont take panadol on the onset which is usually when i first wake up that i have a bad headache all day long and end up going to bed with it the same night. i got told to drink as much water as possible as this may help but otherwise that it was the hormones.

My morning sickness has come back over the last few days, getting really bad last night and I had a horrible headache, and have had for most of today, not as bad as last night though.

It's so gross, I never had headaches with Ali, fingers crossed it's just a passing phase with this one!!!!

You poor thing :( It sounds like a migraine.

I suffer from migraines anyway but get them really badly & way more frequently when I'm pregnant.

If it's a migraine, panadol probably won't work. You might need something stronger like Panadeine (& yes, you can take it when pregnant but don't take more than the recommended dose - according to my chemist & ob). You'll need to take it as soon as you start getting it (or if you're getting warning signs beforehand like an aura or feeling dizzy, etc, then take it then). Your stomach shuts down when you have a migraine (which is why some people vomit with them) so any pain relief you take is much more effective if you take it as soon as you know you're getting one.

Don't take anything with ibuprofin in it - it's not recommended while you're preggies.

I find I have to take quite strong medication for mine now as Panadeine doesn't work for me any more (after years of suffering from the nasty things - I seem to be immune to a lot of pain relief)...& Panadol is like popping sweeties - no effect at all! I usually take 2 Panadeine 15 & it clears it up. Or a couple of Mersyndol if it's not too bad. But if you don't normally get them, I wouldn't think you'd need anything that strong.

Good luck!!

I am another migraine/bad headache sufferer so I feel your pain :hugs:

With my last pregnancy, I only had 3 bad one's in the whole 9 months but one of them landed me in emergency on a drip.

This time I have already had 2 in 12 weeks. I have to take Panadeine forte as it's th only thing that works, but I only need to take 1 at a time. I don't like taking them but nothing else works.

Hopefully yours will pass soon.

MJB - I can sympathise with you hun. I get migraines too, and both times I have been pregnant, I have had more migraines than usual. It's funny coz I got a migraine just before I found out I was pregnant this time and I thought it was odd. I usually just take Panadeine and just have to sleep it off. I usually get the funny vision and just can't read or see properly to do anything, so sleep is the only solution.

I have found too that I get more standard headaches with pregnancy too. I think some people are just more prone to it!! I guess I am lucky coz I don't really get morning sickness so the pay off is headaches and migraines!!!

Just make sure you take it easy when you get headaches and listen to your body. If you need to sleep, sleep!! You gotta look after yourself and that beautiful little bubba you are growing! :)

Hope you are feeling better soon.:hugs:

I have had migranes since birth. I had been on daily medication for it since I was a teen. Since becoming pregnant I have had to come off it though. Mine usually last a few days, all I can do is take some panadiene forte, lay down in a dark quiet room with a cool face washer on my forehead and neck. It doesn't always work but thats really my only option before hospital. I have a few a week without fail. I find certain food smells, reading, chemicals, prolonged sitting or laying down, too much tv, and glare are all big triggers. I find if I also change my pillow every few days helps. I go between 2. That atleast limits the days that I wake up with them. I don't know if this helped at all but you are deffinately not alone.

Something else to, they say to drink heaps of water but I find if I have about 2 glasses of juice a day and limit my dairy it really helps me to.

I still wear my huge blow fly sunglasses whenever I go outside to limit glare, every little thing helps!

my apologies for not replying on here sooner, ive been very sick the last week or so-as it turned out, i had developed a nasty case of sinusitus! i thought i had a bad case of the flu as well with the headaches, but no, i had a nasty infection in my sinus! a course of antibiotics have now cured so i am feeling 100% better. i still get head aches, but nothing compared to what they were. i hope everyone else is going ok with the dreaded headaches http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/00020114.gif (http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&ref=10)
