we just laid him down and leaned all the way over holding his head/neck up. As he has gotten bigger and stronger he now sits up and crawls around in the bath so it has gotten much easier - don't need to lean in quite as far so our bellies are no longer bruised after each bath

i get in the bath and share with my boy. he's so active and squirmy, i found i couldn't hold him securely enough outside the bath. it's a little awkward, but until he learns to sit up by himself, it's the best option i've found.

Same as Fee :)

We use to lay Andrew on his back, propped his head up with folded up facewashers/hand towels. When he was able to sit up, we let him sit up, but supported his back so he didn't fall backwards.

A good idea to invest in a non-slip mat if you don't already have one :)

If your partner can help you out, its also easier to jump in a have a big bath with your bub - then hand bub to your partner to dry off while you get out. Can be done on your own, but a bit more tricky!

that is what we do :) I have sooo much fun with the squirt toys  we actually sit Jack on a flat piece of sponge (helps him be more stable) - but a non slip mat would do the same thing...

We just bought a plastic Valco baby bath seat for Tom. I've attached a link to show you what it looks like (it's right down the bottom of the page). He loves it, it's sturdy and the other kids cant trample him when he's in it.

I had one of those towelling bath seat/hammock type things you get from Target? They are great! Keeps their ears and head out of the water, but if they are wrigglers (like mine) you have to keep a good eye on them still so they don't slip down. I bathed Charlee in the bathroom basin at first 'cos she was so small (5 lbs), but then she went straight into the big bath.

I also have a Velco baby bath seat and they really are great. I either bath her in the seat or i lay her in the bath with a face washer under her head.

I find these ways to be the easiest as you have both hands free.

When DS was about 6months old, I used to put about 5cm of water in the bath and just laid DS down on his back. Was good this way as I simply washed him and hair while he was lying down. He didn't seem to mind having the water in his ears. Then turned him around so he was on his tummy. That way, both my hands were free, and DS was able to move around as he wished.

I did the same as Andrewsmum, I just put enough water in so she could lay down without it going over her face. We got some fabulous pictures LOL very cute!! She would kick her legs and splash her arms etc etc. We didn't have a non-slip mat or anything like that, although it is a very good idea. Make sure you have either a step/stool thing for you to sit/kneel on, or something like that. Don't hurt your back. And we found the best way to get her out was for me to pick her up (while I'm still kneeling on the ground) and hand her up to DH (who was standing up).

I'm not sure if you get these in Oz but it has been fantastic with DS. It is sturdy as it has suction caps and he feels secure enough to kick and splash about. I can't recommend it enough.

we fill the bath very deep and very warm,..then place your arm under bubs head and neck and hold on to the upper arm on the other side,. then hold his other hand with your free hand,..this way they feel totally secure and can still kick around.

I started bathing DS in the big bath when he was about 5 months old. I just put 5 cm of water in it and lay him on his back. He soon learn to turn to his belly and I had hold him down and quickly wash his face and body before he turned over each bath. He really didn't like to turn back on his back and make this as difficult as he could. He has been sitting up for about 2 months now and recently he has learn to sit himself up from laying on his belly in the bath. I tried hard not to encourage him to sit in the bath however now this is all he does. His is still bathed in swallow water. He is really good in the bath and now i'm fighting not to allow him to stand holding on to the edge, lol..... Its kid has NO FEAR.

We have a something similar to Moops, and works wonders for us, she is able to lay back and kick and no water goes near he face or ears. She was only just over 5 pounds when she went into the big bath due to her height.

There are lots of different sorts of bath seats and props that you can buy to place baby on in a big bath.

But I think the best way, and cheepest:D is to just get in too.
I did and still do.
Showering together is fun as well.
