Hi there,

I fear that the Royal Brisbane's Birth Centre is in need of public support. Recent comments by AMA representative, Dr David Molloy suggest many Dr's want the Birth Centre closed - from what I've read of his comments he is opposed to midwife centred care. In a recent interview he mentioned a recent case where a baby got stuck during delivery in the centre - the way he said it, made it sound like the child died. He failed to mention that the midwife successfully delivered the baby and both mother and child went home the next day.

If you feel strongly about keeping women's birthing options open and giving women real choices, please write a letter to the Courier Mail, or the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

I recently gave birth at the Royal Brisbane, but not at the Birth Centre. I would suggest that much needs to be done to improve care for women and their babies, the whole maternity section of our health system in Qld is seriously understaffed and underresourced.

If improvements in care are needed at the Birth Centre, then I would support further investigation, but not if it is a smokescreen to close down the centre.
