single hand creases and downs syndrome

Hi just a quick question I took my 6 week old son for his 6 week check up today and was told by the gp that he has a heart murmer and a problem with his hands. The abnormality on his hands is that he only has one line or crease running across his palm instead of 2. Apparently this can be a sign of downs syndrome especially as he has it on both palms.. I was just wondering if there were any other parents out there whose children have the one palm crease thingy and have not got downs. My son has no other signs or any of the facial features associated with downs so we are hoping he is just one of the 5% of babies born who happen to have this abnormality. Any info would be appreciated thanks

The dude was born with the left ear lower than the right, slanted eyes and undescended testes, all which are indicators of a syndrome. While I worried my life away waiting for someone to tell me what was wrong with my newborn, one of the midwives showed me her hands, both with a single crease. She said that these things are only indicators, and do not necessarily indicate anything at all.

I waited around for 5 days at the hospital before the paediatrician was brought to see me, and inform me that the dude was fine. So he has lots more indicators than your bubs and is just fine.

The paediatrician also told me that nothing is more of an indicator than a mother's instinct. If you know in your heart that your baby is okay, then it is really more than likely he is.

My son was born at 37 weeks weighing 1.9kg and only has one crease in his left palm. The hospital picked this up straight away and did a blood test to check his chromosomes but he is fine. The reason he was small was because of my placenta not working properly which may be why he only has one crease in his palm because I searched google and it said a reason was of prenatal enrichment.

we had our peds appointment tonight and have been reasured over and over again that our little man is fine and healthy . It seems his simeon creases are just a freak abnormality and nothing to worry about. Thanks for your imput :smiliedance:

lukaelmo, I must say that I always see your little dude and think that he is the cutest thing ever!! :D You just want to give him a big cuddle, he is gorgeous!!
