Have been having probs with bubs formula...vomiting and she has eczema like skin. The midwife has suggested trying this formula which I know is thickened to help with the vomiting :barf: but does anyone know much else about it ..the HA bit?

I am also sick of buying tins...every formula I want to try doesnt have samples and if you do have a sample you need more than just one feed to see how things are going. I have a cupboard full of all sorts of formulas!

I use it with DD#2 from about 8wks to now due to reflux when she was a newborn. I have tried other brands and she hates it with a passion - very very unsettled!

I use Karicare HA AR. I was put onto it from midwife at around 15 weeks because bub started bringing up entire bottle after feed. It settled it a little bit but occasionally he brings up his morning bottle still, other than that its great.

I freaked out when I made it coz its like a thickshake but my son drinks it all no probs!

The HA part i think means its made with more water molecules so it is digested easier i think. Bailey was on Sensicare plain to start with and it settled his colic because he digested it easier.

Hope it suits your bub!

Hi

Have just tryied Bailey on his first bottle of Karicare HA- AR, and he litterally skulled it down. He was on Nan Gold 1 but the more FF we gve him the more he :barf: . A parent at work suggested it (she works for amcal chemist) and gave us some sachets to try.

There is a website on the packets it is www.babytimes.co.nz (http://www.babytimes.co.nz). they might have some info on what you are after. You can request samples fro this site too.

Hope this has helped

The eczma on the skin would suggest that bubs is sensitive something in the formula.

Have you been to a paed. to get her checked out?

Hi

I think the HA part means that it is partially hydrolsed???????????

I was just reading this thread out of interest and feel for every mum who has had formula grief (and lets face it, most of us have!)

My little guy started out on s26 gold. Was then changed to karicare ar. Then changed to s26 lf. Have also added karicare thickner into the s26 and the lf.

FINALLY....... my son is now on a prescription formula called neocate.

All these formula changes were under a doctors advice. We saw two paedeatricians. The last one we saw at tresillian and he finally worked out that our son has a lactose and protein allergy. He had previously been in hospital for several days as they thought he might have a condition with his pylorus as he kept vomiting constantly and had sever tummy pains. Even then no one picked up on the problem of allergy, even though there was a big family history of it! His reactions were not only to the formula, but also to the thickner.

Neocate is similar to HA formula. In HA the protein strands are broken down so that the formula is more managable to sensitive tummies. Neocate is similar, but more broken down and partially digested.

The reason I am telling you all this is because had it not been for one doctor, I would have still been on the formula merry-go-round. This formula was a god send and my son is now thriving.

The only down side to this formula is the expense and the smell. The retail on a tin is $80, but you must have an authorised script. That then allows you to get 8 cans for about $30. The cans are half the size of a regular tin. If you have a health care card etc I think it puts it the price to about $5 for 8 cans.

Please take my advice. If you are having formula issues and feeling frustrated, ask your doctor about this miracle formula. It is recommended over soy and goats milk formula etc. Through my baby's distressing start to feeding, I have learned that I should always keep asking questions because the mothers instinct is always right!

Cant believe I blabbed on so much... sorry everyone!

I used karicare AR for my daughter, I found the HA- AR made her vomit just like normal karicare did only the AR didn't. And the plain HA was just like the HA AR. For my bub anyway!!
