I got my BFP, my papers have been sent in and I am waiting for the community midwifery team to call me back with a conformation that I will be able to have a home birth. I am so excited (and a little nervous that they will say no) about the prospect. I have no plans other than homebirthing so I really hope they have room for me! :fingerscrossed:

Awesome! And if they don't have rom for you, you can always still homebirth with an independant midwife :)

Unfortunately DH would never be up for paying for the privilege. It would have to be a birth centre or freebirthing. Couldn't even use the baby bonus as we won't be getting it. LOL Oh well, everything will work out!

Where there is a will, there is always a way! ;)

Fingers crossed for you though...

I know Meg, I had my first two there and have always wanted a homebirth but Dh would never agree to it, so both were birthed @ Mercy.

You know, many reluctant partners have been brought around by meeting with a confidant and positive homebirth mw, sometimes they just need to have some really specific fears put to rest, and a good mw usually can do that effortlessly.

Also, I can't get my head around you letting your partner dictate to you where you are allowed to give birth. It is your body, your labour and birth, and it will be your experience to bear if it all goes pear shaped somewhere you really didn't want to be in the first place.

My partner would not DREAM of trying to tell me where I can and cannot give birth, I find it quite incomprehensible really.

I totally get where you are coming from AP. I honestly don't know as much about HB as I do now due to the hub and that has increased my confidence. That is why this time he doesn't have a choice. LOL If we don't get into the CMP then we honestly can't afford to pay for the IM. I would consider still HB but with a Doula. Previously I don't think I had the confidence in myself to even consider the possibility seriously, ikwim? Thanks for your support. I am so stocked to get another chance this time around.

LOL, it's situations like this where I think I will never make any money as a home birth midwife. Midwifery is something I always wanted to do, and I was a year into my degree before it even occurred to me to look into what a midwife makes. Money was just never a motivator for me, and still isn't. It's my intention to eventually be a home birth midwife exclusively, and I can totally see myself waiving fee's or reducing them a lot so women who really want to birth at home can. I hate the idea of anyone who is truly passionate about having their baby in their own home and environment, missing out because they can't afford it. I truly hope you get to birth at home, I have my fingers crossed for you. :)

LOL Meg I know exactly where you are coming from. I actually started my Mid training (getting through the 3/4 of the course work but only a small amount of contact time due to my beautiful DS2) I just couldn't continue to push through all the **** that you have to put up with first. Everything was just so medicalised and nearly everyone on the course just didn't think like me. I learnt through that process that I am very far from the norm and trying to get women to understand that birthing is a natural thing and then having someone walk into the birthing suite and request an epidural before anything else happened. I just couldn't understand it all.

Sorry that is so far from my original post LOL. There just should be more support from the government for the public run HB programs nationally but also to have the private IM subsidies so that it is seen as a real option for everyone. If I had the money I wouldn't hesitate to go for an IM but I would be happy birthing totally alone, Dh on the other hand would have a heart attack. Hehe.
