Anyone else had PE more than once? What was the outcome of your pregnancy? Was it severe PE or just PE each time? What gestation did it start each time?
Lots of questions because its apparently 'uncommon' to have it more than once and especially if you have one pregnancy in between with out it.. which I did.

lol lots of questions now..
did you end up delivering prematurely?
did you have csect or natural births?
did it develop to severe PE or 'just' (not saying that lightly) pe?
did you BP return to normal following delivery?
sorry lots of questions... have been researching this as much as possible and there is VERY little information on repeat PE as there is so little known factually about PE - just a lot of little studies that 'suggest' reasons for it, preventions and cures (which there are equally as many studies that prove none of it works) etc etc so very interested to learn all about other womens experiences with it!

I had borderline / just pe with first child - blood pressure rocketed on day of delivery (c-section) and stay high post delivery and I went on medication to lower it (took about 2 to 3 weeks on medication).
I had severe pe with second child - blood pressure rocketed at 36 wks and was hospitalised for a week. Was also medicated on hospitalisation - but bp stayed up. Baby was delivered at 37 weeks (c-section). Bp dropped after delivery - was off medication within the week.
My ob (and anaesthetist) was of the view that I have an underlying hypertension, which is aggravated by pregnancy. I have a family history of severe hypertension (mother). I am also a bit overweight (about 8 kgs) - and so I do need to lose weight. My ob is of the view that I will probably get pe with a third pregnancy, and that we will need to be vigilant and probably medicate early. If you have had pe twice - you may want to look into a general underlying hypertension - and start doing things to minimise this developing later.

thanks for that :) My outcome of my 3rd preg with PE was brilliant... made it to 38w6d for a scheduled csect and I had gestational diabetes too. My first pregnancy ended at 31 weeks with severe pe and IUGR and my middle pregnancy I only had pregnancy induced hypertension which could really bad at 35 weeks when she was delivered by emerg csect.
If anyone else has anything else to add to this feel free, still love to hear more of your experiences as we will be having another bub in 2 or so years so extra curious as to how the 4th pregnancy will go!

I have high bp at the moment and this is my third preg. My bp went up at 20wks and i was medicated due to past history. This has helped and bp is fantastic at the moment though im not sure wether it will get worse the dr said it will prob get worse in the last 10 wks.
im booked in to have a c section at 37 1.2 wks to hopefully prevent problems that arose at that time last time.

I only had pregnancy induced hypertension
Can I just say that Pre-eclampsia (PE) is now called Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) there is no one or the other, it has been replaced to explain better what it is. There is however a more severe PIH which is called HELLP. Just for everyones information

Sorry just had to chime in and say that, PE and PIH definately ARE different things.
I am a midwife and also have had severe Preeclampsia with three pregnacies, all resulting in intensive care for me and babies with long hospital stays - my last one 13 weeks.
I had Preeclampsia with no high blood pressure - I had neurological and placental involvement mostly, with some kidney and liver issues as well - but not ONCE did my bp become a concern......
As you can see, PE cannot be replaced pregnancy induced hypertension as not eveyone with PE has hypertension.
Hope I don't sound rude or anything, not at all my intension, but this is a common misconception and just wanted to have my say.
Take care all.

Hi there I too am a midwife and where I work we don't distinguish between them. There are different facets that make up the diagnosis and you don't have to have all of them to be diagnosed with having PIH often the blood pressure will come or can be there but subtly.
Quote: The Preeclampsia Foundation uses the term "preeclampsia" as an umbrella term to cover all variants of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
Quote from you: I had neurological and placental involvement mostly, with some kidney and liver issues as well - but not ONCE did my bp become a concern......
Often you will find if there is placental involvement you WILL have a normal BP as your placenta continues to function ineffectively.
Just on the side I too had severe PIH with both my pregnancies requiring hospitalisation and treatment.

yep my PIH and PE were VERY different. My PE in preg 1 affected Zachs development, lots of protein etc etc.... PIH in preg 2 had no affect on bubs and no protein was purely a blood pressure thing and then in preg 3 my PE didnt affect bubs (apparently my GD probably helped even things out for bubs growth) but I had lots of protein and high bp.
I do think PIH is often downplayed though as for me out of my 3 pregnancys the PIH was a lot more life threatening for me than the PE, my first experience with PE was life endangering for me and DS but not half as severe as the PIH. BP spiked to 225/165 and I was not in a good way.
Hi Girls,
I am sure you are both trying to help us 'lay people' but either way, it is not that helpful to read about your efforts to prove or disprove each other (& like you, I am not trying to be rude).
What ever you choose to call it (my obstetrician diagnosed me yesturday with 'pre-eclampsia' but he could call it a circus and it wouldn't make any difference to me), the fact is that it is scary and potentially a threat to mother and baby and most of us come on here seeking support; splitting hairs over the name doesn't really help.
However, with that said, I'm sure you'll both agree that it isn't much fun for anyone so it is good to see that while there have been some frightening experiences with the condition from other posters, there are also some happy endings.

I'm sorry, I know it's hard I've been there and my support goes out to all those in the same situation :hugs:
