I am interested in knitting some wool nappy covers and would like to know if anyone has knitted any wool nappy covers? If they have what pattern do they recommend. Also what kind of wool do you use etc...
I haven't knitted them myself but I did find a pattern on here and gave it to my Mum- haven't heard how she's going with them yet.
So some one out there has links to a pattern but I'll go back through my posts and see if I can find the thread for you.

Wool has to be at least 70% wool, but 100 wool is better.
Am in the process of getting mum to do me some, she is trying crotcheting atm, just search for free soaker patterns!

I've knitted 4 soakers so far and a pair of longies and love them. I bought a pattern The Picky Pants one and it's easy to knit. 100% wool is best and don't forget you need to lanolise your wool covers before using.
Have fun

To lanolise: Dissolve a pea sized amount of pure lanolin (lansinoh, wool fat) in boiling water. Add to the boiling water enough cold water slowly so the water is warm, but NOT HOT. Place the wet soaker in the solution and leave for at least a few hours, I like to leave overnight.
If you rub the soaker it will felt. If you put in in hot water, soap, the dryer or the washing machine it will felt. If it felts, it will be useless ;)

To lanolise a soaker:
Drop a pea size amount of lanolisah (sp??) yes the stuff you use on your breast or pure lanolin, dissolve this in hot water.
The add cold water until it's luke warm and then add the soaker.
I usually swish mine around and turn it all around so all of the soaker is covered. Then leave for an hour or 2 or as long as you want to.
Roll it in a towel to remover excess water and then lay flat in the sun.
You only need to lanolise cover once every 4-6 weeks and only wash them when they get soiled or after airing them they still smell.
Felting knitted soakers shrinks them dramatically, but I find it improves their performance. I got a couple of soakers knitted in a far-too-big size so that I could deliberately felt them down to size.

sundaymum, why don't you knit one yourself, it is much cheaper and fun. I am not very good, but am nearly finished and it has only taken 3 days.
My mum taught me...
I say give it a go

can anyone tell me where you buy lanolin from and how much it costs?

The purest form of lanolin is lasinoh- the breastfeeding nipple cream. It is at the chemist and is under $15 from memory... last forever though
I ordered some lanolin balls from www.darlingsdownunder.com.au
they're very easy to use, sorry not 100% sure of their actual name.
