Ok I admit this is going to sound stupid but i must ask.
MJ has come down with a cold :( Runny nose (clear so far), stuffy, cough & sneezing & I dont know what to do
Dressing
- do I dress her warmer or cooler?
- should i put a hat on her?
Symptoms
- Should i give her anything ie Dymatap, panadol, nurofen?
- Should i use Fess for her nose?
- What about Vicks for baby's, worth getting?
- Should I try getting her to eat some oranges or other specific fruit/veg?
I just went up & got her some Kleenex Extra Care Alo Vera tissues so they are soft when wiping her nose.
Can you tell MJ has never had a cold before :o
Thanks

For me she seems fine atm, my dd is getting colds all the time *thanks to ds*
if she seems grizzly at night time more then usually iw ould just give her some panadol, for the nose, Fess sounds good (if you mean those saline drops and that aspirator) I would take her to the doctor if the mucus in her nose changes colour, from clear to say greenish, that then means its a slight bacterial infection which she will then most likely be given antibotics
*my DS has had so many colds i feel like an expert on this  *
If you feel her personality has changed to much, do NOT hestitate to go to the doctor and in terms of dressing, just dress her like normal and give her the normal baths

Oh forgot to add, VIcks vapour rub for the bubs (baby balsam??) will be good too for her
have you got a vaporiser for her? just might make it a lil easier for her to breathe if she is congested

The weather makes it so hard to dress kids  It changes so quickly.

Hey NP :hugs:
I hate the weather too, if its nice and sunny, its atleast WINDY which blows, my ds hates it when i wipe his nose now too, or pick at it to get those big and dry boogers stuck
Vicks Baby Balsam is great - I slathered it all over Eloise's chest all last week - she still has a runny nose.
The worst thing about baby's having colds (apart from their obvious discomfort :p ) is the fact that they go for soooo long. E's only just starting to get better now, after 8 days.
I use Dimetapp for a runny nose, and Panadol if she's a bit feverish. And warm clothing. Diluted orange juice would be good too because of the Vit C and it'll make her poos a bit looser too, which is good because panadol can make them a bit constipated (well, it does for Eloise anyway!)
:hugs: to poor little MJ from us...

Ry's got a yucky cold too and I have just picked him up from daycare and brought him home (he's gone straight to bed - lucky thing :o )
It's so hard watching your baby when they're sick, isn't it ? I haven't given Ry anything for his cold except for lots of fluids and heaps of cuddles. I think I'll get out the baby balsam though - anything that helps his little sniffly breathing.
I hope MJ feels better soon !

Rub some weak eucalyptus oil on her feet an put socks on her. Keep her warm, a chest rub is good. (Eucalyptus weak with jojoba is what I use on Bridie) I would not give medication unless totally necesary, maybe at night to help her sleep. Give water and lots of BF!

Keep MJ dressed as appropriately as possible & if a fever starts remember babies are different to adults & need to be stripped down not rugged up.
Ive been lucky also that Harry has only really had one proper cold which was horrible but he got over it really quick whereas i had it for 3wks :(
I would slather on the baby balsam every nappy change ( makes them smell yummy also heheh ) & if his temp went up or he was more grizzly then gave panadol. I tend to stick to neurofen now as it seems to handle symptoms better for us so just before bed i would give him some just so i would know he would get a good nites sleep. I also use an oil burner with some normal vicks in it mixed with a little warm water & have that burn in his room while we are still awake to keep an eye on it. I found this helped a lot with his cough but i also sat in the bathroom while DP had a shower every nite to help us both clear our chests with the steam then he went off to bed.
Keeping fluids up is a real must as they can become dehydrated so easily especially if they start getting a temp.
Just try & keep her comfy she may sleep a little more than usual which is fine as its just her body fighting off but if her personality changes too much or her nose starts running a green or yellow then take her off to the doctors.
Good luck i know its horrible when they are sick & there isnt too much you can do :hugs:

Fess is great for the nose.
I usually put eucalyptus oil on me when my babies have a cold, so they can inhale it while i am feeding them.
I prefer Euckybear rub to vicks, but follow the directions for young children, I think you need to cut that down with Olive oil for babies from memory.

I actually would avoid using anything that stops the nose from running freely - because when we have colds, runny noses are our bodies way of keeping the germs moving. If you stop this process, the germs just sit in the sinus' and go off - meaning a sinus infection is much more likely. I know runny noses are yucky, but its far better for bubs to let it run!
Hey Donnelle
Sometimes burning some euclatypus oil in a oil burner can help. I have one here if you need to borrow it, I used it for Travis the other night.
Hope MJ is feeling better give lots of :hugs: and  for us.
