Just wondering how long (approx) it took for your elective caesar IYKWIM.

For instance, how early before your op did you have to arrive at hosp?

Did you have to wait past your scheduled time?

How long does pre op, the op and post op last?

And how long til you were ready for visitors?

Sorry lots of questions. LOL.

Arrived at hospy at 6.30am. checked into room etc.

Went to pre-op around 8.30 I think. Met Dr anaesth etc again.

DD was born at 9.47am

Took anotehr 1/2 hr or so in surgery, then an hr in recovery. Back in room by around 11.15-11.30.

Had first visitors around 4pm but could happily and easily have seen them much earlier ....say 2ish I was quite ok and ready.

Good luck :flowerz:

Just wondering how long (approx) it took for your elective caesar IYKWIM.

For instance, how early before your op did you have to arrive at hosp?

two hours for both c/s

Did you have to wait past your scheduled time?

No, as I was always first on the list for both c/s

How long does pre op, the op and post op last?

I was still in my room when I changed into the hospital gown, had the TED stockings put on, and was monitored by midwives and had a chat with anaesthetist pre-op, then went to theatre and it took approx 15-30 min to get the catheter, spinal block and drip put in, then the operation lasted about 30 mins (that is the delivery of the baby, placenta and being stitched up), then I was in recovery 30 mins the first time and only 20 mins the 2nd time

And how long til you were ready for visitors?

I had DD1 at 1.55pm, and was back in the room with her and DH an hour later at 3pm (half an hour to deliver placenta, get stiched up and in recovery). We had family visit around 6pm, as we wanted a few hours to ourselves, as 1st time parents just to have our precious newborn girl all to ourselves and look at her in wonder.
With DD2 I had her at 8.32am, and again was with her back in my room by 9.30am and we had our first visitors at 3pm that day. We always had family only visit on the day of the birth (ie my and DH's parents, DH's brother and wife) and other people came the following days, once I could get up, shower, get dressed and all drips/catheters were out!!

Hope my experience is helpful to you.

For instance, how early before your op did you have to arrive at hosp?
- a few hours.

Did you have to wait past your scheduled time?
- yes, I had to wait 3 or 4 hours I think. I'm guessing that emergency c-sections have priority for the operating room.

How long does pre op, the op and post op last?
- pre-op was maybe 5 minutes to get gowned & shaved, 5 min for the epidural & other med lines.
- the op - I have no idea, I didn't even realise when they started cutting. But I'm guessing it was less than 5 min before bub was out, and maybe 15 min stitching up?
- post op recovery - I have no idea. I think I faded in and out a bit as my memory is really sketchy on how I got to the recovery room and then being taken up to my room.

And how long til you were ready for visitors?
- The next day. DD was born in the afternoon, I was a bit spacey on pethadine that evening but fine the next day. That said, I was glad that I didn't have visitors for a few days because half the time I was half naked trying to get DD to attach.
