Hi everyone,
Just wondering how everyone is going/has gone with their bags they are taking to the hospital? I've packed the following (and allowed for extras!); does anyone have any further suggestions - as I'm most likely forgetting the obvious!) ...
Labour bag:-
Lip balm
Nightie to give birth in
Socks
Headband (I have shortish hair, but usually use my sunny's on my head till I go to bed!)
Private health cover info & purse (with medicare card etc)
Mobile phone (can be used in hospy here) - has all contacts in it
Camera & charger (to be added when we leave for hospital - written on white board on fridge as reminder also!)
Hospital bag:-
2 feeding bras
3 nighties (I bled a lot 1st time - sorry if TMI)
Undies (around 7-10)
3 packs of maternity pads
1 box of brestfeeding pads
1 roll toilet paper (public hospy has crappy paper - sorry the pun - not sure about the private hospy I'm going to this time)
Flushable wipes (saw this in an April thread - very good idea!)
Day clothes - couple pairs trackies & 3/4 pants and tops
Toiletries - haribrush, shampoo/conditioner, glass & contact lens stuff, deodorant, shower gel & puff, toothbrush & paste, tissues, face cleanser, moisturiser etc
Note pad, pens, loose change
Slides/thongs
Baby bag:-
Mittens (so bubs doesn't scratch him/her self)
Disposable nappies (only supply cloth & have decided to use at home, so going to use from beginning)
Wipes (JIC not provided!)
2x going home coverall (2x JIC!)
2x singlets (a/above!)
Bunny rug
Dummy (may use - depending on how bubs goes)
The hospital provides all other supplies during our stay.
I have a huge suitcase packed, a toiletries bag & a separate baby bag - and I don't have my labour gear packed yet! Aaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhh!!!
Thanx for you help,
Tam :)

Sounds just like me when I was ready to go, but don't be surprised if most of those things in your labour bag dont get used!!!! Nothing in mine did! Along with the birth plan!
I'd say pack more breast pads, I went through them like nothing else - more than maternity pads. Everyone is different but I went through three boxes in my first week. Oh and pack more tops than pants in case of leaking boobies and vomit attacks (baby!). And make sure your knickers are nice and big and will sit over your tummy just in case you have to have a c-s and you don't want anything rubbing on the stiches.
Lots of love and luck xxx

WOW! I'm so disorganised....
Sounds good Tam. I'd suggest maybe some high-energy snack foods for labour? Other than that, you have definitely got it all sorted.

Thanx, girls.
I'm basing my bag on what I did use with Tayla.
I've got a BIG box of breast pads and heaps of maternity pads at home (I bled heaps last time - sorry if TMI!) - I'm just going to make DP bring more in when he comes up when I need them (I really don't have much more room left just now!!!!!!)
I should pack some hi-energy food snacks, but I know they won't get eaten (and they supply DP with food) as when I'm in pain I :barf: and I definately don't eat ..... maybe that contributed to me passing out twice after I gave birth last time. Ok - sorted. Will pack! Thanx, the_queen!!!!!
KateP - I didn't even have a labour bag packed last time - just the camera & lip balm & stuff for my stay - I thought I'd better pack one JIC this time!!! The hospitals here seem to supply quite a lot of stuff (heat packs etc) that I did use with 1st labour, and didn't need anything else.
Thanx for your help - one less thing to worry about!
Have a great day!
Tam :)

im also going to take a triangular pillow , they are very comfortable to put bubs on when your feeding..
This thread is scaring me.
I think I just realised I am going to have a baby.
Which means I have to go to hospital.
And get blood on me.
And its going to hurt.
Oh my goodness.
WHAT HAVE I DONE???
sorry. just had a bit of a epiphany.

 not laughing AT you Shed.
I had the same epiphany this morning, I got the capsule fitted  And I've done all this before, but it's still extremely scary and fuh-reaking me out completely.

Other things I have in my labour bag are:
*Snacks (as suggested by Queenie - mainly muesli bar type things and some Allens lollies, mainly for support people)
* A wheat pack
* Massage oil
* Talcum powder (for if I want a non-oily massage)
* iPod and speakers (with pre-programmed playlist of relaxation music)
* Essential oil for burning (BC provides an electric oil burner)
* Endura sport drink sachets (as well as electrolytes, they are full of calcium and magnesium so great for sore, fatigued muscles and recommended for labour)
I think that's it for the labour bag. Who knows if I will use it, but I am aiming for drug-free hence all the 'natural' pain relief options.

We can just go on forever, hey with the lists? I literally have 4 bags packed (and they're not small either!) - anyone would think I'm permanently leaving home!!!!
I've got my tri-pillow written on the fridge on the "bring up to hospital later" list (remember about it laying in bed the other night at 2am!).
Despite being my second, it is still surreal, but so real at the same time!!!

Sounds like a pretty good list. After my hospital stay this weeks its made me think a little bit harder about packing everything properly. Your list seems pretty complete to me

I'd chuck in 2 more growsuits for bubs in case you get a spewy one, at least they wont take up much room in your bag. Did you have your partner coming? If so maybe some board shorts for him if you decide to get in the shower/bath.

Thanks again!
Didn't think of DP - only worried about myself - have packed something for him now too!
I actually bought 2 outfits today for bubs as I decided I wanted to bring him/her home in the traditional pink/blue - so I have one of each (as we don't know what we are having) & also another white grow suit. (2 friends had babies last week - boy & girl, so won't have a problem giving away the unused colour!)
Getting so close now for all of us ... yet so :smiliedance: !!!

Just remembered ... I've also bought a little gift for Tayla and a "you're a big sister now" card (great advice from a friend when she had her second). Think it's a great idea so that she doesn't feel like she's missing out with all the attention on the new bub.
