Hi
I just started bottlefeeding my 5 month old on saturday and was just wondering how everyone stores there bottles and formula when going out? My DS is having 6-8 bottles a day so if I was to put them in the baby bag, I wouldn't be able to fit anything else in there. Do you somehow just fit them in the baby bag? Or do you carry around an extra bag?
Thanks
Natalie
Hi,
I've had both my boys on formula since two weeks old and have found the best way for us to store them is to buy a big cooler bag - we use one that was designed for wine bottles!- and then we use a couple of those freezer packs ( I have found the gel type ones seem to stay cooler then the blocks) and this keeps the milks icy cold all day and doesn't take up a heap of room.

Hi MLN:)
I have been bottle feeding my bub from day one (he wouldn’t feed from me) He has 6 feeds a day.
I find that wouldn’t go out for more than 3 feeds a day. I also take a bottle of water for him. (4 Bottles) I also take a container full of warm water so I don’t have to rely on finding somewhere to heat up a bottle.
All I can really advise you is to plan ahead. Some days you may need to take out a backup bag with extras in it.
Good luck

Hi
Thanks for your replies. I have just been using a plastic bag at the moment but I might go and have a look at some cooler bags today.

Hi
One of the things I discovered early on is that formula can be served at room temperature (Maternal Health nurse told me this) - so long as bubs likes it that way. So for ours we just take large plastic bottles filled with cooled boiled water, formula goes into a separate measuring dispenser and we take one or two empty bottles with us. We make it up (pour and shake!) as we go and serve it up to our bubs at room temp. Then we sterilise the bottle and teat afterwards (wash it up and sling it in a saucepan of boiling water and boil for 5 mins) - all ready for the next go. If she is being particularly fussy though and wants the formula warm we warm up one of the water bottles first before mixing up the formula - because they're made of thinner plastic they warm up dead quick if you sit them in another container of hot water. This way there's no wasted formula other that what she might not drink from the bottle. Hope this helps.

I definetaly recommend keeping the boiled water in the bottle and formula separate. This way you don't need to worry about keeping the bottles cold. Just add the formula to the water when bubs is ready for a feed (you can buy special formula dispensers from Target and other shops that sell bottles etc.). When a microwave isn't available you can take a thermos of hot water with you to warm the bottle.
hi there!
For DS i usually just take the boiled water in the bottles and then add the formula from the dispensers when bub is hungry.
Its so much easier!
