Greenies should beware of the landfill issues that will be created by the new ACCC pram laws.

I just have to say, I think people buying pram after pram after pram, impacts the landfill itself, as there is NO guarantee that someone will buy one of the 5 prams that some people go through!
I think personally, production of products should be ceased that are dangerous, such as the foam booster chairs....
The new laws are a great idea personally, as they are just as important to have a safety standard and with prams changing the safety standards and laws should too....
Sorry just my opinion on the matter...

What about businesses? Its been mentioned on another thread...
Oh this might explain what DF was saying the other night. He just started working at Baby on a Budget and came home with the work van full of prams that he had to throw out the next day. They were perfectly good prams that had been lent out to customers while they awaited delivery or their orders etc.
I said WTH throw out 20 perfectly good prams when you could give them to the salvo's or someone and he said he wasn't allowed to anymore..
This is what will happen. Most pram consumers onsell or giveaway their used prams which DOES already reduce product consumption.
Does YOUR pram have a red brake, warning label and tether? What will YOU do with your pram when your done with it?

I will take mine to the salvos, their is no way I would throw away a pram that is in good clean working order.
I have one to give away at the moment as I do not need it any longer.
I dont think any of my prams have ALL those things
Yep I have 3 prams.
A double jogger, a pram , and a stroller

No I got my pram in 2005, I have only had 1 pram....
When I finish with it, we may keep it to use if we have another, or let DS play with it.
For most people today it is 'not good' enough...
I never used it often anyway, and certainly not on walks steep hils etc...and not paid attention...
The businesses, is why I say they should have stopped or limited production when these laws were a possibility of coming in....
Most materials of the pram could be recycled...
They would just require dismantling...

Salvo's cant take it if it doesn't adhere to the pram laws though.

I always use the brake on my pram, (both of them). I use the brake to keep dd safe. I don't use it because it is grey or black. And just because a brake is red does not mean it will be used. Fair enough to make all new prams with the new safety items, but the colour of the brake does not a safe pram make! So why should all of our perfectly safe and working prams be now considered unsafe?

Whats a red brake? :o
I have a baby love pram 3 wheeler still in good nick, has a step brake, no tether or warning signs though, and a smaller steelcraft one, 4 wheeler, which has wheel brakes (they are red, is that what it means?) and a tether.
But seriously.. what a load of sh!t.

I know that they are trying to make prams safer but at what cost? The damage that it will do to our environment is ridiculous.
There must be a better way of doing it than this.

Gizmo - yeah there has to be a better way. The accidents in Adelaide were no doubt tragic... but parental awareness and understanding needs to be addressed. If a parent isn't going to use their brake or tether strap then a warning label is useless anyway.
And honestly - who reads warning labels that are 2.5mm high anyway???
Thanks for that. all done!

Umm well i was pram shopping the other day and saw one of the new labels, it was on the handle, the handle was a dark grey and the sticker was a see through with white writing and honestly it was a strain to read it at all and i am always told that i have great eyesite!

What a ridiculous law!
Surely painting a brake red isn't going to make people use it anymore than what they do now!
If I used my brake anymore than what I do now I'd be walking with the bloody thing on!!
My pram is 5 years old. It is working fine, the break isn't red and the only 'accident' I've had with it was running over a few school kids feet when they very rudely pushed infront of me while I was trying to board the elevator.
Please PM me the details of the petition! This is ludacris! :yelclap: for you bringing this to our attention!

not happy with this at all, i understand that it is a safety issue but something else needs to be done here!! :shame: i will sign the petition too if you would like, just pm me!!
there at least needs to be a program to dismantle these products. For instance, when i finished with our unused vcr player i did some research and found that for only $7, a local company took apart the entire thing and recycled all the individual components!!
