View Full Version : PELVIC/ PUBIC PAIN ?? is it normal
i am 20 weeks and for the past almost 2 weeks have had pain in my pubic bone - felt like a bruise at first but it has gotten worse since then
comes and goes during the day but by night find it hard to walk or turn around if lying down or get up from lying down
have appoint with Ob on friday so will tell him then but am worried as it is only really on the left side and not the right
does this mean my pelvic area is moving unequally ?? am worried can anyone shed some light if they have gonw through this
thanks in advance :crying:
:hugs:The pain is most likelly related to the relaxation of the ligamants in the pelvis due to various hormones.
A lot of women eperience some discomfort at various times during their pregnancy, but as it hasn't setteld then you should get an appointment with a Physiotherapist and or Osteopath who has experience with pregnant women.
The pain you are describing could also be the start of Pelvic Instability. The physio can advice you on how to stand/sit/ rolin bed etc, and give you some specfic strengthing exercises for th area.
I have had this on and off since week 17 and saw a physio for a while, but get the most relief from an Osteopath. Another friend had some discomfort at around 20 weeks, saw an Osteopath one and has been pain free since.
I don't wish to panic you, as everyone is different and has variable symptoms with thiscondition. So don't freak if you google it. (Like I did)
If you get onto it early then it may go away with a few treaments or come and go but not get too bad.

Hi There,
You might want to check out www.pelvicinstability.org.au - there is lots of information and coping tips on the site and it is an australian one.
Cheers,

It sounds like round ligament pain. I've had it since week 10 (this is my 2nd preg) and mine is usually worse on the right side but sometimes moves to the left. It's because the ligaments that support your uterus are stretching and it does hurt. :(
My suggestion is to take some panadol and try to lie down or take a warm bath when it flares up. Good luck.
I had it in the late stages of my 2nd pg and then started early in my 3rd pg.
It most likely is just loosening of your ligaments, a pg discomfort, but it bloody hurts!!!
Speak to your ob about it. There are also exercises/techniques you can do to lessen the pain.

I had the same thing from around 25 weeks - I'm 38 weeks today and still have it...it go worse unfortunately....spoke to my ob about it - totally normal.
thanks girls
yeah i spoke with Ob and he wasnt too concerned and said it was round ligament stretching
so i have been taking it easy and resting as much as possible and it has kind of settled down but still there
i can know at least walk and sleep a little but as soon as im up for a while it does get worse
i guess its just one of those things that some of us are unfortunate to experience

This is an older post, but I wanted to throw out SPD (Symphisis Pubic Dysfunction). Google it and you'll get a lot of information. I had it with DS, when it started around 16-18 weeks. It hurt going down stairs and laying on my side in bed...had to sleep with a pillow between my legs. It didnt go away until about a year after I had him, as my pubic bone settled again. Anyway, thought I would throw it out there as thats what it sounds like....hope you got some answers... :)
