Well not that Dubbo is outback NSW, but it also didn't fit into any of the other areas in NSW so I ended up here :o Mods feel free to move (maybe we need a Central West section????):detective:

Okay so I'm on my way to Dubbo in the next few months and probably will be completely there by the time my next bubs is due. So...

Has anyone had any dealings with Dubbo Base Hospital?? Good/Bad?? I also have private health so if you have had a dealing with the private hospital please also let me know!!

Thanks in advance. :)

Not exactly Dubbo surrounds but i like to class you as my neighbour. I live in Broken Hill (700km away):laughing:

Hope you find someone a bit closer that can help out.

Cheers
Janet.

PS: Maybe post in a general section somewhere where it might get more exposure.

Hi DQ

I had my twins at DBH in Feb 2007, and I have to say I was expecting a lot worse than I got having never really been there before aside from booking in. [I'm from Wellington]

I had a casarean, and I was pretty well looked after.

Nothing but positive things to say to you about it.

I hope your birth goes just as well.

Take care.

xx Mel

BTW, FunnyFarm, I am originally from BH! :)

I lived in Dubbo in 1996-1998...Luckily never had to go to the dubbo hospital, but my aunty and uncle have been there, and have recieved great care, not having a baby of course, but for serious heart conditions and diabetes... And they were great there, so the Maternity section might be pretty good too....

Are you moving there to live?? What area?? My aunty and uncle live there, she manages a servo in town....

I know others who had babies there, years ago, and never had any poblems...or complaints....

Good luck....

Hi DramaQueen,

I live in Dubbo and had my little girl at DBH. Had a totally positive experience. Midwives were fantastic, food was good (well, that's important too!) and I was always looked after. Only thing I didn't like about the maternity section was that it is one of the only sections of the hospital not yet renovated, so the bathrooms are a little bit 'older' style.

I also went to the maternity clinic there pre and post baby. Sometimes you have to wait, but I found getting one of the earliest appointments of the day made it easier, plus you get to meet the midwives that are looking after you. You will also get a couple of home visits from the community health midwives after you've had bubs.

Hope this helps!

Ooooh, forgot to add that even if you are a private patient in Dubbo you will usually deliver at the public and then get transferred to the private. Private only do planned c/s. I haven't been a patient in the private, but have visited plenty and it is lovely and I have been told the staff there are excellent too!

Have you picked your house area or school yet?
I haven't been there for 13years, but I still have family there.

I live in Narromine about 30 km West of Dubbo. I am due with bub #4 on teh 7/3/10. Am currently attending the anti natal clinic at Dubbo base hospital and will deliver there. I also attend the diabetic clinic at the hospital every fortnight as I'm Type 2 diabetic.

So far so good. I've found the OB's and midwives at the clinic good. Allot better than what I've experienced before. I've heard that you can't have a c-section at the private hospital so if you have one you would have to be transfered but a friend of mine said that you also get excellent care there.

Good luck.

Tess

Can I come in here? I can't find a central west section :(

I'm Kelly and I'm in Orange - I spent about 6 months out in Broken Hill before we came back here, and 4 years in Newcastle before that. hubby and I met here when I was 16, and we've been inseparable ever since :) Both kids were born here, even though we moved away in between, lol. Now we're looking at number 3 and we're back again... lol all fluke I tell you!

Anyway I grew up mostly in Dubbo, from 5 - 13 and back again at 15 and 17, briefly.

Oh good, it's not just me not looking properly then :)

This might sound so incredibly offensive, but I still find it weird that people live there - but only because growing up in Dubbo we'd do the Dubbo to Sydney trip all the time, and I swear we never saw a person on the street, lol.

I did go and do debating once when I was in school, and the catholic (? I think, my school was) school there. I went to St Johns in Dubbo then.

Orange is ok, it's working out at the moment for us, anyway. Now that the kids are older and in schools and settled we can't just pick up and move when we get bored like we used to. My 10yo son has point blank refused to move again, they didn't inherit the nomadic gene hubby and I have, apparently :)

nice to see someone else is here ;)

I see you're a doula - do you go up to the hospital much? I just heard that the nursery is full  a friend's SIL is up there with pre eclampsia and if they decide to bring on labour she'll have to go to Sydney.

No offense taken, trust me i can understand why you'd think that. It's a small community so it's really good.. I grew up here so I pretty much know everyone.

Yes, I do go up to the hospy. And yes, it is always busy and understaffed so I guess it is quite possible that they just don't have the facilities atm. It really is a dog box.
