View Full Version : Sew Your Own Nappies?

Where can I find a pattern to a sew-your-own fitted nappies thing?
I'm thinking of having Nugget's well meaning but horridly last generation Oma to sue me some pocket nappies or something to keep her hands and sewing machine busy. *grin* Hopefully a one-size-fits-all type.

Also can I buy PUL material at spotlight, if I found pattern?

Geez Nikki! How about you just glance at the forum before posting the same thing that was asked the other week.

Second question still stands..

Can I buy PUL from spotlight? or what works best? :)

Hey Nikki, I had someone PM me yesterday with a great website that has patterns. I'll find it and paste for you. I know you can buy PUL on ebay. Just type PUL in baby and maternity and you'll find a shop of it.
I'll be back in a minute!:D

This is a free pattern.

There is also this one but they charge about $20 for the pattern.

OR - an easier way to start might be to look at nappies covered at www.ozebaby.com.au - they have packages to purchase (one or two pocket nappies per pack)

Just a thought :) I'm not a great sewer myself!!!

oh - and nikki... spotlight doesn't have pul... but there are various websites that stock it by the metre...

hmm I'm thinking sandras stuffables?? I think they might stock it - as does nappies covered...

I THINK they do - sorry ... I'm lazy .. I should check

let me know if you need other sites!!

Beautiful Sal, thank you! I didn't think to look up PUL on ebay! :D

Veve - I'm not a good sewer, but my dad's partner is. And she's threatening to make me some gear that's.. well a few decades from my taste so I figure I'll keep her busy ;) (and save me some money)
Also, remember to put an .au at the end of that website :p

Hi Nikki,

Check out http://www.thenappynetwork.org.nz. They have printable patterns (I've adapted their pocket one and I'm now very happy with it) that are free. I also looked at http://mayna.livejournal.com/198548.html and http://www.geocities.com/mytafadhali/fleeceaioshell.htm to get the general idea of how to sew them.

I've turned mine into a flexi-size pattern - I could lend you one at the next dinner to get the idea if you like or I could give you a copy of my pattern.

The cheapest PUL I've found is at bubbaearth.com.au, especially if you can go and pick it up (north bris).

I've sewn a few nappies now that have worked out pretty well, so if you'd like any more advice I charge $50 an hour for a consultation  Seriously I'd be happy to answer any more Qs if you have any :)

Hi, I posted on the other site the Kwik Sew pattern 2062 and I have recently ordered some PUL from the US. The website is:-

www.sewshoppe.com

After looking at suppliers in both Australia and the US, this company seemed to have a great range and the postage wasn't overly expensive. I got enough material to cover around 25 nappies for approx $3 per nappy.

I try and get most of my supplies from Bubba Earth but have ordered some PUL from www.diapershop.com in the US. I only ordered from them because I wanted some different colours and also the aplix - it's softer than velcro. The postage can be a bit expensive though.

And don't forget the sewing workshops at Real Nappy Week, for next to nothing, you'll have a couple of nappies and a cover. And learn all the inside tricks to sewing nappies.

Cheers

The unfortunate thign about that, is that I'll be working in those times :(

Thanks for all the tips :D I'm now on the hunt for decent priced PUL and microfleece gear... some of the prices I've been finding I would be better off just buying nappies

I've worked out it costs me about $10 per nappy (AIO) which is pretty expensive (and yes, I do buy the cheapest fabric etc I can find!).

All the links to fabrics, free patterns, hints & tips that I've been able to find are here:
http://www.ozclothnappies.org/links#sewing

See especially the recently added "Free pattern comparison: A pictorial essay comparing the sewing of three free fitted nappy patterns side-by-side: the Mamabird, Wee Weka, and Ottobre. By ozclothnappies member Siobhan. Great reading for new nappy sew-ers!"
http://baroquestar.livejournal.com/176873.html
Very helpful for comparing sizing, etc.
