View Full Version : Springfield Lakes - Brisbane area
Hi ladies, Im new to this site so just thought I would introduce myself . Im Robyn and currently living in NZ still but moving to Springfield Lakes in October so was hoping to meet some people before I come over because Im gonna know no one! I have a 4yr old son and almost 2yr old girl, where does the time go? Thinking, just thinking at this stage about a 3rd but will see how the move goes first. So please, tell me how wonderful Aussie is and how much you are enjoying it so I dont chicken out of moving!
Hi Kjaek We are also moving to Aus likely to be end of August which is now so close. We are looking at the sunshine coast or Brisbane. I also have a nearly 4 year old girl and a boy 15mths. So am nervous about the move and meeting new people etc but hoping it will not too long going to playgroups and other activities with the children. We currently live in Wellington.
Its a scary move isnt it. I didnt realise but over there the kids can start school at 4yrs so that means my son will be off to school in January, my baby is growing up! Do you have jobs to go to yet? My husband has just started looking now and Im hoping to be able to stay at home with the kids, go to playgroups etc... to try and meet new people.
Hi I was told that school starts later than here like the year after they turn 5. I am a little confused about it as keep hearing different things. I am not sure I would be ready for her to start school when she is 4 but that is more about me than her like you say growing up to fast. My husband is off for and interveiw next week leaves tomorrow morning. He has applied for the Queensland police. He is currently in the NZ police so we are doing everything from here. The training course starts at the end of sept so hence why we are leaving in August. Where abouts is the springfield lakes area? Did you just like the look of the area. We have found that quite hard to decide what area to base ourselves in.
From what i understand they official dont have to start until they turn 6yrs but they can start what they call prep at 4yrs and if your childs birthday is in the first half of the year they start in january but if its in the second half then they dont start till the following year. Kobe is 5yrs in march so can start in January but will just see how i feel about it at the time. I think he will be more than ready though, he is in daycare full time at the moment while I do some maternity cover and he just loves it and is really bored on the weekends. We have family in surfers so always thought we would go there but my friend moved to springfield lakes after doing a bit of research and they love it so we went over to have a look and it just felt comfortable you know. its a new subdivision/town, all the houses are new, there is virtually no crime, no hoons or graffiti, there are schools and preschools and colleges and a mall all right in the wee subdivision but its also an easy (well easy on australia terms) commute to Brisbane which is where hubby will probably work and only takes 30-40 minutes to get to surfers so still close enough for the theme parks, family etc... it is really hard knowing where to base yourself and there are so many new subdivisions but i figured this one is close to everything, nice, new, safe, and will be a great place to bring up the kids.

Hi!
I'm about 10mins away from Springfield, and I'm always over that way...DS is in the ABC Education City there.
I have an 18 month son, and I'm 21...but feel about 35 lol...
If you ever wanna take the kids to the park, or anything we'd love to come along...
...with DS as a only child, I love when we can get together with other parents & their kids, so DS can play...
:)
Hi! so whats that ABC like? I want to get my kids into preschool so they can meet some wee friends.
Would love to catch up when we get there.

Luv Brooke:)
Hi Brooke, Im so happy to hear you love it there and that its family friendly, thats one of the main reasons we want to come there. Do you mean Orion? I went shopping there when we were over, its amazing how much money you can spend in 1hr! hubby was not impressed. That mall is going to be massive when they finish aye.
So where in Springfield do you live? We are hoping to be close to Olive Grove? I think thats what its called, my friend lives there but I also want to be close enough to walk to the school, shops etc....

There 2 ABC's there, Education City 1&2. My DS is in 2... I'm not actually sure what the differences are between the centres but anyways...
I love his daycare. I'm absolutely thrilled with them. They are so friendly and happy and welcoming.
DS has only been there for 2 weeks and already has paintings everywhere he has done and I've had a heap come home.
They don't provide food, milk or nappies, but I still think they are fab.
Forgot to mention, it's also such a short walk from the center to Orion, theres a pathway/bridge that goes straight though.... not even a 10min walk.

My friend lives right near olive groves.. I am about a 15 min walk from the lake
Yes it was Orion I was talking about, its great I love having a shopping centre so close, its its going to be huge, Movies and all:yelclap:
Everything is pretty close in springfield, i often walk to orion rather than take the car for some fresh air and exercise:)
and I moved to Westlake Brissie 5 months ago with my 8 yr old and 4 yr old twin boys. We are looking at building a house springfield lakes way as it is absolutely beautiful out that way.
If you ever want to come closer to the city for a coffee (kiwi hospitality LOL) let me know :O)
I am 31,married and only have the 3 boys (definately not planning anymore as after my twins my body is way done!).
Westlake is 15-20 mins down the road, although I go out that way often (as I LOVE the mcafe out there). Good luck with your move, it is scary and you get homesick for the first few weeks, but once the house is set up away you go! You will love it here, the lifestyle is amazing. I went to a place 1 hr half away today called Toowoomba and it was cold like Wellington-although once you sat in the sun you felt warm unlike NZ where you would have 5 layers of clothing on just to thaw out! LOL The wildlife here is also amazing, its like being a child again discovering all these new and wonderful things! :O) Take care, there are loads of us kiwis here!
Its funny cos everythign seems so far away, like Orion seemed like a decent distance, not so much time but distance, i think its cos you go on motorways and everything and there is still a lot of undeveloped land it felt like we were in the middle of now where. Im definately going to get myself a GPS! Oh yay 4 yr old twin boys, will have to introduce my son, he is 4yrs old and its funny but a family from his preschool are also looking at moving over around christmas and they also have 4yr old twin boys, they are going somewhere in brisbane but not sure where yet.
We thought we might rent until we decide what to do and if we stay then will look at building, its so much cheaper over there! Its sooo bloomin cold here at the moment, i want to pack up and move now! Oh yay, I loooove shopping malls hehe what a shame there will be a nice huge new one right there for me to go to. Where would the closest movie theatre be to Springfield Lakes?
I must remember that daycare. I want to get the kids into one as soon as i can because I know they are going to miss the social interaction although Im hoping to meet lots of new people and always be out and about anyway! Im so worried Im going to be a nigel no mates and stuck home all day tearing my hair out and watching the clock till hubby comes home.....
