Thought it was about time that i would share my birth story.

Well, as i knew would happen, i ended up being booked in to be induced 9days past my due date.
so at 10am 1/6/08 i was to be at the hospital ready to be induced.
i had mum with me and was to meet DP and DP's cousin there.
at about 1030ish i had an internal and found that my cervix was still long and hard so i had first lot of gel and bub was monitored for about half an hour.
i was then sent up to the ward to wait for things to start happening... the assured me that very few people went into labour when just using the gel and if at 430pm nothing had happened, i was to have another lot. well, nothing happened i was only getting pressure on my pelvis and strong braxton hicks.... at 430pm i went back down to the birth unit and had another internal to find that my cervix was still not favourable... i had another lot of gel... and was taken up to the ward again. i was getting quite a bit of pain, just braxton hicks... but fairly painful that they made me walk funny and very uncomfortable.
it came to 8pm and my support people had to go home, which i was very annoyed about as i thought i might go into labour over night and they wouldnt be there for me... but i dealt with it. as you do.

next morning 2/6/08 it came 515am i was woken up by a midwife with my breakfast telling me to eat up and get showered because they were taking me down stairs at 7am. so i rung DP and his cousin and my mum and told them to make their way to the hospital.
it was they were there by 7 and we were all very nervous but excited that it was all going to happen. at about 745 i was taken down stairs to the birth unit was taken to my room and go all set up ready for my waters to be broken. at 9am, doc turned up and done another internal to find i was 2cm dialated, so, broke my waters... after this, nothing happened... so at 930 the sintocin(sp?) drip was started.
after the drip was started i was just getting strong braxton hicks that were heading into real contractions and were coming one after another. i was in sooo much pain, i honestly thought it was going to be alot less painful, this will expain itself soon.
unfortunetly because i was induced i was unable to have the active birth i had wanted. i was stuck laying on my back strapped to a monitor to trace bub heart rate. because i was in so much pain i was unable to sit still and the midwives were getting a little frustrated with me as i was with them. but i knew all in all, they were there to help me.
during my labour i was very irrate, didnt want anyone talking to me, didnt want anyone touching me and didnt want to be told what to do.
at about 1020 i was screaming and shouting every profanity in the english language and was demanding pain relief. i had one breath of the gas and started vomiting. obviously it just wasnt for me. i was offered pethadine and told them i didnt want it because it would make me sleepy. but i was in so much pain that i wanted it all to go away, i was screaming for an epidural. the midwife asked me if i could wait 30mins... all is said was NO!
it came to 1040 and i had another internal only to find i was only 4cm dialated. this was the worst news i had heard all morning. i was still begging for an epi and was told that the anethetist was on his way. he seemed to be taking his time.
at 1050 i suddenly felt a weird sensation, it was as if all the pain had gone away. i knew i was ready to push, so i did. i sat up and said to the midwife 'i really need to push' she just looked at me as if i was joking, quickly had a look 'down there' and saw bubs head was on show. she turned around and said to me 'i knew this was going to be quick, but not this quick'
they started getting everything prepared for the delivery.
the urges to push were coming one on top of the other and was suprised to know that by the time i knew it bubs head was only one push away.
bubs head then popped out aswel as her hand. and she was laying on my chest 1105am

all in all, i had a wonderful experience. although it was very painful because every stage was on top of the other, it was the best gift i could have asked for.
