View Full Version : grobag/sleeping bags and blankets
hi all,
as some mums may have read that i have been sleeping ,my 7 month son in a grobag, i have noticed since the cold weather has some to the adelaide hills that he may be getting cold (arms and hands). he loves to be tucked in tight but is a mover in his sleep.
i took him out of it for 3 nights but noticed that he would self settle as he crawls and climbs everwhere, he will sleep ok but relys on me. teething at the moment to so its fun NOT ha ha.
does anyone use a grobag and blankets? if so can you share your storys.
cheers :fingerscrossed:

My DS slept in a grobag with blankets last winter (probably from 5mths to 9 mths) but once more able to roll around wouldn't stay under the blankets. I now rely on dressing accordingly to temp and using the varying tog bags. At the moment he wears cotton long sleeve jammies and is in a 1 tog bag. He always sleeps through the night but has a snuggly washer which he takes to bed to snuggle and munch on.
Hi amymay,
Yes I spoke to you about grobags in your last thread :)
My DS uses a 1.0 tog bag (well it's a summer Redcurrant one) and when it gets colder as the night goes on I add an extra blanket over the top of him which really helps.
He isn't crawling yet though and I find the bag stops him from moving about in his cot. He is teething too though and no matter what you do during the night to make him comfy the teething will wake him when he's in pain :( Only thing that works is cuddles and Bonjela (or coming in with Mummy for a while).
Hey, how do I know when I have to drop his mattress and put up the sides of his cot higher (they drop down for easy picking up)? Is it when he starts to crawl so he doesn't start climbing up on them?
Let me know how you are going with it all anyway.
Seeya.
hello,
thanks for your reply, i am going ok have been using his heater and have mastered a nice temp through the night with a grobag and no blankets yet, seems to be working well so far!! just got 2 tooth so routine back to normal well close too ha ha.
i dropped his cot at about 6 months cause he climbed out and fell. not a nice thing to go through so drop it before its to late. Zane my son is very active, is trying to walk now at 8 months, can walked about on furniature, learning the whole balance thing......
cheers, :smiliedance:

hi boysmum
it is a good idea to drop the matteress and raise the sides before they start moving too much. my little one started to crawl at 4 months but was trying to stand before then. i think if the baby is standing or trying to stand that is a good time to put up the sides. then when they are standing and their whole head is above the top rail of the cot then you can drop the matteress. unfortuately my dd at nearly 9 months stands head shoulders and part of chest above the top rail and i think we might have to put some padding on the floor as she is learning to climb. (or get a big bed). it is also a good idea not to have any large stuffed toys or too many toys in the cot. i keep a few small plastic and 1 stuffed toy in the cot for her to play with in the mornings when she wakes and if there is too many they can pile them up and stand on them. (mum said that was how i climbed out of my cot when i was little). so be careful.
Boymum 'They' say you should drop the mattress down to the lowest level when bub can sit alone...tho my DS was actually crawling and pulling himself up before he could sit so I dropped it when he started pushing himself up on his hands and knees. You should always have the sides of the cot pulled up, I know DS was a great wriggler and would have fallen out over the sides if they had been left down, DD is still in a bassinet but she will be in the cot within the next couple of weeks and there is no way the sides will be left down when she is in there.
I also agree with Billie&Beth, don't leave too much in the cot and definatly make sure it wont help bub to climb out...tho DS had nothing in his cot the morning he climbed out, he was about 18mths when he did that tho.

Hi I know what a growbag is but what is a tog bag?
hi,
tog mean the rating warmth etc for the grobags. example grobags make 3 types of bages. A 0.5 tog is for hot summer nights, 1 tog is all year round and a 2.5 is for winter.
