Annabella Molly Louise
Born 7/5/2008
11.52pm

Okay.... have finally got around to writing this lets see how i can remember and hope Annabella lets me get it finished.

We live about 6 hours from Adelaide where i have my ob and decided to deliver at a private hospital. It had been an eventful pregnancy. We got preg straight after a m/c which put us on edge the whole time. I had dreadful morning sickness from day one until the day she was born which forced me to quit work and be on strong meds. Then at 20 weeks i was rushed to hospital with gallstones and spent the week before xmas in hospital on morphine. Because of all this i was sure i was going to go early with some complication, especially since my BP went crazy after 36 weeks. But no.

We worked out the due date to be the 4th of may, but my ob had it as the 7th. I went down to adelaide 2 and a half weeks before the due date to wait. This really dragged on and with my morning sickness getting worse and the fear of my husband missing the birth the friday before the 7th i was favorable so my ob agreed to let me be induced the following tuesday night (the 6th).

So hubby came down and we both went in to hospital on the tue night. Hubby stayed the whole time with me in hospital. At 8pm they put the tape around my cervix which was more painful than i thought it would be. We were then told to get a good rest as it would be a big day tomorrow. I was given a sleeping tablet but hubby and i talked all night and were so excited.

Now the actuall birth is a little hazy as i felt so disapointed at the time so i think this is how it panned out, but dont quote me on exact details.

My ob came in at 8am, i was only 1 cm dilated and broke my waters. She said i had really tough membranes and it hurt heaps. Then i had the iv put in for antibiotics. I had wonderful midwives the whole time and i used my Tens Machine and walked around till about 10am. The pain was getting a lot more intense and although i wanted a drug free birth i quickly realised this would not happen. AAt about 10am the syntosin was put up and i needed the gas straight away. That worked more than i thought it would and didnt make me feel sick so that was fantastic. My ob was due back at lunch. When she got there i was only 3cm dilated and told i had a long way to go. So i asked for an epidural. Only problem was they couldnt get me one till 430pm!!!! that was torture. I had pethadine which helped a little but i was desprate by the time the epi went in (which was fine, with all the other pain i was in i didnt notice a thing). This gave me a little relief and a small sleep. The day dragged on and at about 9pm i started pushing. Well i was **** i couldnt understand how they wanted me to push and i knew i wasnt getting anywhere. Then suddenly i had heaps of pain in my right hip (i have since found out that the epi didnt cover that area so because i couldnt feel the other pain i was focused on that). Any way it was making it very hard to push and get comfy.

I was getting very distressed and my bubs heartrate was dropping. I begged for a c-section but my lovely ob new i could do it so didnt give in. In the end we had the suction and she came out and i needed just one stitch.

She didnt cry and was wisked away. The cord was around her neck twice and she had swallowed her first poo so was getting her stomach pumped and given oxygen. She turned out fine though and i got a cuddle. She weighed 6 pounds exactly so was the little bub everyone kept telling me i was going to have.

She went straight to the nusery to be in a hummy crib and her daddy went with her. Once i had showered i went in and we had our first feed. She feed really well for 30mins each side and suddenly we were a family.

I initially felt like a real failure as i didnt handle the pain as i thought i would. But i now think we all struggle and i am not the only one. It all worked out well in the end.

The day we were to leave hospital i got Bells Palsey, which is a condition where one side of your face temporarily gets paralised. So five weeks on and i still look strange. But it shoud clear up within 6 months and i will be fine.

We are just so happy to have our little princess and are loving being a little family. Still trying to get a good amount of sleep tough. She is feeding well and growing heaps.

Thanks for reading, hope it makes sense, dont have time to edit. Will try to do that later.

it was horrible.. and i was so selfconscious to begin with... but i can asure you it gets better!!!

i think i had mine for at least a month or so... it started getting better on its own... i had cortorsone tablets to take for the first week which helped heaps!!!

i hated eating in public and drinking... but i found that straws helped heaps! as did taking small mouthfuls!!! ... eat slowly coz as i found out th hard way.. its easy to bite your tongue or cheek!!! ouch!!!

make sure you get heaps of rest too hun!!! i know its hard with a new born... but it helps in getting rid of the bells!!!

good luck sweete!!! and if you need any help or advice or anything just ask!!!

hey...

my doc also said its not related to pregancy etc... but it is more common in pregnant woman, in people who have fluid retention and with blood loss...

im nearly 100% better... if you were talking to me and didnt know then you wouldnt be able to tell theres nething wrong...

i have full movement back in my mouth and jaw... and feeling aswell... my eye is closing more easily now... but not completely... i can tell more at night wehn im trying to sleep...

earlier on i had to tape my eye shut when i slept so it wouldnt dry out... aswell as putting drops in... now i just put drops in without taping... my doctor prescribed them to me... they're more like a sticky liguid (like honey)... if that makes sense!!!

good luck though!!! hope your heals up alot sooner!!!
